View Full Version : Glasses? Now I'm old!

All of a sudden I can't see to tie on a hook. I've been having headaces and my Dr told me to go to the eye Dr and guess what? I need glasses. I ordered the lineless bifocals that tint when you go outside. Since I have no idea about glasses (having never needed them) I was wondering what people normally pay for glasses? I thought I was picking out $185 glasses then figured out that was just for the frames. The lined bifocals made me see double so i got the other kind. Ended up being just under $500. Did they see me coming from a long way off or is the normal price for glasses?

First the hair falling out and now glasses, your right, you must be getting old. The next thing you know, you will be driving down the road with your left blinker on. I also hear that the family has a history of not being able to hear either. You must of not bought your glasses at Wal-mart because that seems double of what they should be. Mrs. BackHomePoke thought you could of got them for $100.:)

That cost for the glasses sounds about right. It's not the frames that get you--it's those things like the tint, non-glare glass and such that add up, unfortunately.

If the $185 was for the frames, that price sounds in line.

For $700 per eye you can get rid of glasses forever with Lasik. If you need magnification, just buy a cheap pair of granny glasses at Wal-Mart.

If that's all it takes to be a better shot, I should have done it years ago!

I feel your pain. After years of not wearing glasses as all my siblings did, I finally had to admit I needed them, and then went to bifocals at the last checkup, but the distance part was really needed -- at least I feel much better driving with them on! (so it's good for the surroundings)...

The hard part is accepting the hearing aids. Three years in a fabulous summer job as a college student (the Fort Henry Guard in Kingston, Ontario (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Henry_Guard)), advanced my natural hearing loss about 20 years, or so I'm told... At least I could set a good example to my Father about minding his "hearing health" during his last years! ;)

DCPF....you made my day!

Silly Poke Fan....you can't have Lasix done to make your eyes better! You take Lasix to make you pee better!

If you want to see better, I recommend the procedure that backPhil endorsed....Lasik:D

In the past 6 months, I have to hold things a good 8 inches further away from my eyes than I used to. Plus i'm in that dreaded area where I have to have it a good distance away to have the words clear, but the damn words are usually so small, I can't see them~! lol

I still have great eye sight. I refuse to do anything, but Betty did get me a pair of .175 reading glasses. I do put them on when no ones looking.

Now does Lasik, work for just this problem? I have great vision at distances, and reading the eye chart, I never miss a letter.

I don't retain water.

I do, however, retain ice cream and chocolat.
