It is rumored that it is not academic related, but may involve the receipt of extra benefits or a contact signing with an adviser or agent.
As a sophomore Oliver is eligible to be drafted next year. He was a 17th round pick by the Twins two years ago.

In an effort to quell a bit of the rumor mill, everything being reported right now is academic related.

That would make sense with the timing of school just ending.
But how long have grades been posted?

Well, that's the only question I had as well because as far as I knew, grades were due the week following finals (so at least two weeks ago) and I know the academic center does an outstanding job of monitoring our athletes.
That said, I just wanted to make it clear what's been said thus far so people don't come to the wrong conclusion prematurely.

Would he have tried to cram in a May Inter-session class, which would have ended yesterday, ? I belive grades have to be posted in one week but am unsure.

Thank you. So it's grade tampering is it? ;)

MVP announcers just said it was back in high school, possibly involving a consultant. He's not in trouble in school or anything like grades. He might be able tp play again after the NCAA investigates

How long will that take?

Long enough for OSU to be out of the tourney, at which point they'll say "Oops! Looks like he was eligible after all. Sorry!"

The forced timing of this ineligible announcement is interesting. I wonder how long this issue has been in the works.
When was the last time Oliver pitched?

Radio announcers said the team found out Thursday. What I want to know is WHO turned in the SOPHOMORE, Andy Oliver?
Suspects: Gene Stephenson, Sonny Galloway??

Yep,great timing on the part of the NCAA. The NCAA freakin' hates us it seems. So yes,I also heard Rex say that it had something to do back in high school, and he could be back throwing as soon as they, the NCAA,look at it. So if we win the next three, and make a super regional, they will look at in in July, but if lose tomorrow, then they would have looked it at this week. They will screw us somehow.

this ncaa crap is angering more and more. they are already in the process of punishing osu 's mens basketball team for the graduation rate rule that is such a crock anyways. if the ncaa punishes osu for this one year rule that a basketball player can go into the nba and then they punish osu for this Oliver kid's mistake then they damn well better punish the usc's basketball and football teams .
you watch osu will get hit much harder then usc will. I hope nothing happens to the baseball team for any of this.

I don't think that USC is in violation of the academic progress rate; however, Washington State just got socked with 8 ships lost due to poor graduation.
The violations at USC were not reported DURING the season, or other actions might have been taken; where as, with Bomar, he was gone... kicked off.
It seems that any "injustice" is simply "perceived" by you, and may not be as "real" as you're trying to make it.
It is common practice to suspend players pending investigation... for ALL teams... lots of "name" programs have suspended players recently (and continually).
Regarding OJ Mayo; has anything been proven yet? Why must they "damn sure punish them" if there is no actual violation?
In situations like this (i.e., going down a slipery slope) it is typically prudent to keep the cart behind the horse.

well... like I said, he was finished playing already (as was Bush) when the allegations surfaced; otherwise he would also have been suspended.
If there is no immediate threat of making it worse (i.e., by playing a kid), then you wait to see what the results of the investigation might be before "punishment" is assigned.

Turns out this is is a case of an agent getting mad and trying to get some revenge...
Only time will tell if the NCAA decides his allegations are true and warrant any discipline.
