The media has made a big deal out of this Kevin Smith from UCF having a chance to pass Barry Sanders single season rushing record.

Smith has 2,448 yards (2nd all time in NCAA single season) on 415 carries ( a NCAA single season record) .... Making him 181 yards short of Barry's record.

Now... I consider myself a good Christian man who generally cares about all people... I am a coach who does not want to ever see any athlete get hurt or taken out of a game...

But my loyality to OSU and my wanting to keep Barry's best season ever is really making it hard to root for this athlete..

In fact I find myself wanting him to get hurt (not seriously) or for defenses to just dominate him... almost rooting against him...

DOES THIS MAKE ME A BAD PERSON?? I feel guilty but I was rooting for Tulsa players to knock him out for the bowl game... I don't even care if he gets 180 of those 181 yards... as long as he doesn't get 181...

Anyone else thinking of this or am I the only bad OSU fan hoping something stops him from Barry's record.

NOT QUITE THE PICTURE OF TOUGH DEFENSES... I am gonna have to say Barry faced the tougher defenses' in the Big 8 ...

As long as OSU includes Barry's bowl games (which they can do if they choose) this cat would need dang near 500 more yards

Not sure why ESPN doesn't clarify the distinction between Barry's yardage
(2,628 in 11 games, not counting the 222 yards vs Wyoming in the Holiday Bowl) and Smith's yardage in 13 games already, and they will count his bowl game as well.
Doesn't sound like it's apples to apples.

The way I understand it is that it is a choice made by the school. If OSU would include Barry's yardage from bowl games, nobody would touch him.

a simple answer, yes

Rooting for someone=good

rooting against someone=bad

And yes, I am a bad person, every time the Paperclips play someone other than OSU.

I feel Barry Sanders is tied for the best running back in college football history.

Unfortunately, the guy I feel he is tied with is a world wide recognized scumbag (and double murderer, allegedly) OJ Simpson.

I hate to admit that OJ was every bit the college RB Barry was, mainly because he is such a creep off the field.

It is a choice by the school for their own records, HOWEVER, the NCAA, along with the statistics committee decided to make it two eras with regards to statistics. The prebowl calculation era (I think pre 2003) and the post bowl calculation era.

It doesn't matter what we decide (and incidentally, our SID or statistics guy says they decided to go with the NCAA rule for consistency) NCAA will always have Barry as the champ for the pre-bowl era.

Another good point is that since the advent of the 12 game season, more bowl games, conference champ games and such, most people put more stock in the yards per game category, where Barry is nearly untouchable.

You also don't have to wish bad on the guy (injury) you can wish good things for the defense of the opposing team.
