With everything going on around Fedora this weekend, I was curious how effective our scheduled recruiting visits would be. So far, so good I guess. It looks like we have landed three new verbal committments this weekend. Unfortunately, they are all only two year guys out of the JUCO ranks. However, they all look like they can come in and have an impact pretty quick. They are as follows...

1. Andrew Mitchell, OT 6-5 300lbs. This guy is a man! He's 24! He took some time off for a Mormon mission and is older than your average JUCO guy. He is from the same JUCO as Tonga. The other sites are saying that he should be able to come in and push Brady for playing time. But, with the way Wick moves everybody around, there is no telling where he may end up. Not that they matter, but he is currently rated a 3 star prospect.

2. Lucien Antoine, Safety 6-2 210lbs. This guy looks like he could come in and provide help in pass coverage at the safety position. He had 4 picks and caused 7 caused fumbles. Looks like he has the frame to put some size on and help pretty quick. He is aslo a 3 star prospect.

3. Jeremiah Price, All-American DE 6-4 245lbs. This guy really produced at the JUCO level. This past year he had 12.5 sacks and over 60 tackles. Initially, I thought that we werew already pretty deep at DE next year. However, when you take away our seniors, we really only have 4 guys. We already have 1 other DE that has given a verbal and we are after 2-3 other ones. If they want in, it would be interesting to see who the staff took. This guy is a JUCO All American and is rated as a 4 star prospect.

There were three guys in from Butler Co. Community College that I know the staff would love to get as a package deal. They are a DB, DT, and RB. All of them are ranked as 4 star guys and all of them can play. Gray, the DB, has it down to us and Iowa State. He visits them next week. One would hope that we could out recruit them and get Gray to commit.

The other interesting twist that happened had to do with a Michigan commit. McGuffie is an Ath. that committed to Michigan early. With the coaching change, he is shopping around and was supposedly seen at the basketball game sporting Orange!!! This kid is in high school, runs a 4.3 forty, and benches 350. He can flat out go. There was a thread on another site that said he was visiting UT this weekend, but left early and ended up at the OSU basketball game on Saturday night. Some people are swearing up and down that this kid is going to be a Cowboy. In my opinion, which means nothing, this guy is up there with Kye Staley when it comes to physical skillzzzzz!!!! I hope we get him. All in all, I would say that the weekend went pretty well. By my count, the new verbals put us in the 21-22 committment range. I think Gundy wants to take 27-28. It looks like we should be on our way to another top 25 class. And, I for one am pretty excited about the "experienced" JUCO talent on the defensive side of the ball. And....For the record, all of this is hear-say with the exception of the 3 verbals. GO POKES and way to go Coaching Staff!!!

The JUCOs will fill the void from Gundy's first class which was basically a bust. This gives our red shirt freshmen at those JUCO posititions another year or two to get ready to start, and takes the pressure off the incoming freshman to play early.

I have no "premium" information, but I have a gut feeling that Sam McGuffie is going to be a cowboy. He could be the biggest high school recruit since Bobby Reid. This kid has some athletic ability that one normally sees on Sundays.

Well it looks like only 2/3rds of the Butler trio made it this weekend because Swanson Miller (the one we really need who is a DT) kept his scheduled visit to West Virginia. The good news is that it looks like we got a verbal from Beau Johnson (the RB) and Gray (the DB) almost committed but still wants to visit Iowa State next weekend. Heres hoping to landing the trio!

It looks like the Miller (DT) kid is going to commit to West Virginia. He, along with Bedford (DE) from Indy CC in Kansas made a visit and are really high on WVU. However, DeFo was supposed to be in Butler today. With the weather, I don't know that he made it. Hopefully, he can sure up Gray (DB) and have a major impact on Miller. If we can get Miller on campus, I really like our chances.

uo had a big WR de-committ today. His name is Fuller. He decided to go to A&M. With that development, I'm betting that Owens is all but locked in on the gooners. I hope we can make some noise with some of the big boys late.

New commitment

OSU received a verbal commitment from 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive
tackle Andrew Mitchell on Sunday, according to Rivals. Mitchell, from
Choctaw, will enroll in January and participate in spring practice.

Almost 23 years old, Mitchell went to Snow (Utah) Community College
following a two-year Mormon mission. He redshirted and played one season
at tight end, bulked up and moved to tackle.

Mitchell, who played left tackle, will compete immediately for a starting job. If
Mitchell wins a job over Brady Bond, coaches could consider moving Russell
Okung to right tackle.

Twelve recruits visited over the weekend. Mitchell said seven players
committed. Quarterback Kody Spano and Adrian Richards already committed.
In addition to Mitchell, safety Lucien Antoine and defensive end Jeremiah
Price also committed.

•Recruiting weekend: Few coaches were as busy last week as associate
head coach Joe DeForest. One day DeForest flew to Kansas, then Florida,
then Georgia and Houston. All in one day.

"It's hectic but it's an enjoyable time to meet the players and their families,”
said coach Mike Gundy. "But there's a lot of travel. There's some wear and
tear on the body. But it's the most important thing we do.”

•Finals week: The Cowboys canceled Sunday's practice due to inclement
weather. They will not return to practice until Friday after final exams have
concluded.

•Fine dining: OSU held its annual football banquet Sunday night after
practice. Award winners will be announced today.

•Staley selected: Guthrie star Kye Staley, who has committed to OSU, has
been selected to play in the Under Armour High School All-America game
Jan. 5 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.

ESPN's comment on Staley: "Just watch the tape and you'll see this guy is a
versatile player used in the same manner as Darren McFadden at Arkansas
when under center. Being recruited as a running back and safety. Under the
radar guy.”

McGuffie has become somewhat of a "youtube legend." If you haven't watched his videos (posted above), then you need to take a look. One of his videos is possibly the most amazing highlight compilation I've ever seen. While I would love to focus mainly on defense, you can't turn down a talent like McGuffie. Political correctness aside, it's even more amazing that the dude is white.

We still MUST get a stud Juco defensive lineman, though. That position is bar-none our most pressing need. If we don't, you have to consider this class a failure. I bet we pull in one.

I happy to see we are getting some quality juco players on defense. I hope Jeremiah Price enrolls for the spring(don't know if he can) and gets a little more weight on him because he is 6'4 245 which is only five pounds heavier than Nathan Peterson. We need someone bigger to man the line.
