With the ncca investigating our good freinds at usc this makes me wish that i could be the top cat of the ncaa .. I know a lot of folks dont like Pat Jones but he is a cool dude and is exactly right about hammering USC .
So here is a couple of things to ponder . First ,what would you rascals do if you had the power to disicpline a school ?
Second would you jokers out there be suportive of a ncaa overhaul of handing out punishments ?
here is my to do list if i was the top dog and was , oh lets say a commissioner . I would retract some of these nonsense rules but i would close the loopholes in recruiting.
I would establish 3 levels of punishment .
level I least severe = a pep talk to the ad and coach of said school. maybe a little more depending on crime.
level II i would give all colleges a 3 strikes deal at this level and would levy a suspension against the AD OR COACH even both if warrented or even suspend the whole team if more then one player is involved but i would use the guidline of which rules were violated and such.
first offense for non compliance on serious infractions would result in = a written warning to the coach and A.D.
second offense i would levy a suspension on the entire team for 2 weeks (football ) 4 game suspension (basketball ) AND a 6 game suspension for baseball.
Level III
3 strikes and your progam is done ,regardless of whether a booster did it or not and the 3 strikes rule only applies if it is a level 3 infraction not a level 1 , 2, and 3,
first offense for players not working (see bomar) is the school would be fined 2 million dollars
second offense the coach and a.d. would both be suspended for 5 games or weeks, and players would get a year susppension.
third strike the coach is automaticaly discharged and anyone else deemed involved.
third strike would involve a post season ban for three years , a 8 schoolarship reduction for the next season (FOOTBALL) 4 in basketball and 6 in baseball and i would fine the univeristy president a.d. and others 15,000 dollars for aiding and abetting the guilty culpruit .
this is just a guideline because i cant give a example of the rules right now but do you guys think i am being too togh on the university ? I am just creating a guideline to discipline and i want to crack a whip here.

I'd give them a slap on the wrist just to piss off the sooner fans. Personally, I could care less what USC does. My war is a lot closer to home. Now, if ou was to get in trouble again, I would reduce their football scholarships to two, limit walkons to those under five feet but weighing over 350lbs and not allow their softball team go out for football -- not even if they shave their backs. That would kill their program!

Other than the amount of money involved, how is what is going on at USC ANY DIFFERENT than what went on at OU?
Someone not directly part of the University paying players. The University claiming it couldn't have known what was going on. The University denying lack of institutional control.
The only differences are:
-the amount of money involved, and
-at OU it was a known booster paying it and the relationship with the University was much closer and tighter than the USC deal.
In my book, the immorality and cheating aspect of it is exactly the same whether it's $3000 or $30,000.
I think USC ought to get EXACTLY the same punishment as OU.

I don't think the ou punishment was enough, and I think that their non-compliance was worse, because they are supposed to have a program for monitoring work by players, and either they did not, or it was not properly administered (which is totally different that what happend at USC with Bush and with Mayo).
If Bomar had not been punching the clock to get his money, then the issue would have been the same, but he was in fact doing something that was supposed to be monitored by the University.

I totally agree but you ought to hear the ou fans. They feel like they will have been cheated if USC doesn't get a severe punishment. It's just hilarious.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Reggie Bush, also from USC, get accused of improprieties a couple of years ago. If so, sounds like USC is pretty consistently having trouble monitoring this sort of thing.

Hammer all the big programs for the next 5 years. That would include OU, USC, Ohio State, etc.... Hell, throw in any team that THINKS they are a big time program (aTm) just for grins. Then hit them all with scholarship reductions, reduced recruiting times, and a 9:00 pm curfew for everyone remotely associated with their sports teams. That way the ones who have been getting away with anything they want for years (OU) get what they deserve, and the others are probably guilty of something along the way, so screw 'em! Then OSU takes over the NCAA sports world!! :food-smiley-004::ousucksnana:
