Anyone else making the trip??
I can (and will) make the short drive from LA!!
If its a Texas Bowl, probably no chance.

Not to pirate this thread, but I'm a little disappointed that you chose "Lewis the Pike" instead of "Kevin Federline".
Ah, those were the good old days :)

We are thinking about going, but since we will just be returning from Vegas on the 27th, flying back out doesnt sound all that appealing.
I honestly hope its a driveable Texas Destination.

Every time I go to a bowl game, we lose. So I plan to take one for the team and stay home.

Thats an option, but its going to depend on the cost for changing flights & what not.

Tempe will have TONS to do New Years Eve Night. I believe the Bare Naked Ladies are playing in a street dance and Mill Street will be full of partiers.
I'm waivering on this trip. At first, I was really excited because I'm an ASU law school alum. It's becoming clear though, that if I do get to go, the only way we'll be able to afford it is if I go alone without the JD-ettes, and that kind of bums me out.
We'll see.

I sort of like the BNL, but they are sort of what usually plays at OP-a few years away from being really popular.
I do have a preganant wife, so it won't be a crazy party...
How long of a drive is it from OKC? Any suggestions on hotels near the stadium?

Just speculation right now.
I bet its the insight bowl, but if not we could be heading to one in Tejas, or Shreeveport again. I bet Shreeveport is highly unlikely though.

I think we are speculating as to whether the Pokes are going to Shreveport, Tuscon, or Houston for their bowl this year.

Are we going to the Insight Bowl for sure? If not, when should we know?
I'm really hoping it's a bowl somewhere in Texas... I could make that one, but I couldn't make the Insight!

Can't get off work to go, but the thought of the goons out there for the Fiesta bowl makes me want to barf as well. If they go out there, you will be flying from Dallas, not OKC if you wait.

I'm really hoping it's a bowl somewhere in Texas... I could make that one, but I couldn't make the Insight! It's not for sure yet... most likely will be the Insight if Mizzou beats UO. If the Gooners win, then all bets are off, as the Big 12 could then only get one BCS bowl, and if so then all the teams would shift down one. It might end up being Houston or even Shreveport again.
Should be decided soon after the BCS bowls are announced... not sure when that is (maybe Sunday?).
EDIT: yes, the BCS bowls are announced on Sunday. I should add that at least one "expert" (one of the ESPN.com college writers) has OSU projected to play in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio... so throw that in the mix as possible also!

Well all signs are pointing to AZ. The alamo bowl has come out and said that they prefer tech or atm so we are likely out on that one. Texas bowl is out of luck as there will not be a big 12 team to fill that slot (as it is last). So that leaves the Indy bowl again or Insight (if my memory serves me right). I don't see the Indy bowl taking us back to back years and their are quite a few ties for OSU to Tempe according to the latest story in the DOK.
You'd think the Alamo would want out of state folks to come and bring their hotel and meal money. They might do ok with Tech, but I don't see them making a lot of money from A&M.

I just moved from Tempe 4 months ago, and we are headed back out after Christmas. It has a lot to offer and is a great atmosphere for a bowl game. The drive from OKC is about 16 hours. Check www.azcentral.com for New Year's Eve events. I would look for hotels around the airport in Tempe or in Scottsdale. I'd be willing to help anyone with information if they need it. I love Tempe, and it should be a great game.
It's not a bad drive from the LA area, so I'm really hoping to go. Thanks for the info, Katie.

Agreed... except that if only one Big 12 team makes a BCS bowl, there will be a Big 12 team available for the Texas Bowl after all. That may not be likely, but it is possible (and projected by at least one or two pundits). So Houston is not completely out of the question as a destination... it would depend on whether the Insight wants OSU or whichever Texas team (likely A&M) would domino down to them.

. . . The drive from OKC is about 16 hours. . . .
he he he . . . Actually, what you are talking about is 1000 miles across barren landscape on Interstate Highway all the way. . . How fast do you drive? ;) Speed limit in New Mexico is 80 anyway, right? With a good radar detector, like a Valetine One, if you "average" 70 mph the whole way it's only 13 hours.
I do "combat driving" for a living, so I know I can make it in 12 easy.:p
Go ahead and make your reservations in Tempe (or nearby). It's all but a done deal.

My cousin, who is an OSU grad and lives in Houston, says that some of the radio stations are reporting that OSU will likely play the bowl game there.

I hope it's not Shreveport. My only time there was a loss. But they do have the "Hot hot hot donuts" store outside the stadium parking lot.

I would rather have Schreeveport than Tempe, because it will be much easier for us to go that way. Its very driveable.
We would also bring a boat load of fans.
Unfortunately, Tempe is pretty much a no go for us right now.

Shoot I don't care where it is, I want to go regardless. Unfortunately, babysitters aren't that hard to find for 3 days!
I don't think I have missed a bowl since 96 and don't want to start now.

the Valley Ho is pretty expensive. Its very "Scottsdale"...home of the $30,000 millionares. No offense to anyone in Scottsdale :)

FYI...i called to ask some questions about the hotel and over the phone they said that in december if you stay 2 nights you get the 3rd free. i did not see this special on the website, but IMO it's a pretty sweet deal considering the prices.
