What things should Golden Eagle fans know about Larry Fedora in case he, as expected, lands the Southern Miss job?

Thanks in advance for your help!

He's good. We hate to lose him, but our loss is definitely your gain. I really can't think of anything bad to say about the guy. He made our offense explosive. If we'd had a defense, we'd have won the Big XII

Oh, and I forgot to say--welcome to the board. Glad you came by.

He is a proponent of the spread offense and is very good at putting together a game plan to win games. Sometimes he is predictable and sometimes he comes up with off the wall plays that, as a fan, you would not expect. Usually they result in big gains or TD's. Also likes to get yardage in Chunk's. This is not an offensive minded person that wants to grind the yardage out.

I don't know anything about your team and the personnel you have returning but if you don't have a QB that can pass and run like a deer then you may have to wait until he can get one recruited into the system. The QB will have to have an arm on him (remember chunk plays) and be able to run like a tailback.

You will need WR's and Tight ends that can catch the ball and are fleet of foot. If you get him you will get a prince of a man and a real upcoming type coach that knows his stuff.

The only thing I can say is be patient your first year because it takes time to implement his system. Get used to not huddling and guys raising up to look back for a play change. Beyond that enjoy him. We will miss him.

He's an outstanding football mind. Despite what many may say or perceive to be his offensive philosophy, he actually prefers to run the ball if he can. Balance is the ultimate objective for him, and we achieved that to near perfection the last two seasons (one of only two teams to average over 200/200 last year; one of only two teams to average over 230/230 this year). As stated, the first year of implementing his offensive system may be rough; however, once the horses are there to run it (and fully grasp it), you really can't ask for a better offensive system in my opinion.

I don't know what kind of head coach he'll be, but from what I can tell, he'll be successful in that role. Get a good defense to go along with that offense (something we've been unable to do), and you're looking at some very exciting things at Southern Miss.

His playbook is like a set of World Almanacs.

In the first season on two, expect a "dumbed down" version. And, like it did here, it could look like a cluster for a while, till the kids get it down. But when they do.............LOOK OUT!

Get used to scoring!!

Southern Miss Alum, if Fedora takes your job, then Jeff Bower could become a candidate to replace Fedora as the Oklahoma State offense coordinator, what do you have to say about Bower? Is Bower a good or an average offensive mind?

I was always impressed with him when we played S. Miss. How is he at building a staff and recruiting? Fedora will try to take most or many of his offensive assistants with him and we may need a whole staff. However, S. Miss. will have to come up with some more cash because our assistants are very well paid and have long term contracts.

Thanks for all of the comments, I appreciate your candor. I hope things work out, contract-wise and we're able to make an announcement soon.

Poke John, ironically, Bower was the OC at Oklahoma State when we hired him 17 years ago (hope we're not in a rut!). Obviously he's going to have changed a lot as a person and a coach in that time, but he was a great OC.

He was OC at Southern Miss during two of Brett Favre's years there before heading to Stillwater. His offensive philosophy tightened up a bit when he became head coach and it was his neck on the line, but as an OC he did a great job of mixing things up and throwing in some interesting wrinkles to the gameplan.

It's been quite a few years since he was up in the booth, but the new challenge may bring out some of his gunslinging ways (which he has still shown on occasion as HC).

I'll be pulling for the Cowboys in the Insight Bowl.
