OSU Notebook: One-man gang

When freshman guard James Anderson scored to give Oklahoma State an 18-point lead over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 12:04 remaining, he had eight field goals -- only two fewer at the time than the entire Islanders roster. Anderson finished with 22 points, cracking the 20-point barrier for the fourth time in his seven-game collegiate career.

Rookie class: Freshmen combined for 38 of OSU's 60 points. Martavius Adams scored 10, one shy of a career-high, to join Anderson as the only Cowboys in double figures.

"I thought the young guys did fine," coach Sean Sutton said. "Other than James' (six) turnovers, the freshmen played pretty well. It was the veterans that I didn't think were ready. You look down the stat sheet and it shows. ... Those guys, they have got to play better than that and they know that."

In regard to Anderson's turnovers, Sutton said: "He's got to understand that some of the plays he could make in high school, he can't make at this level. He is an extremely gifted offensive player and we would have been in a lot of trouble in the first half if it wasn't for him. I think he has a tendency to force some things at times. But there is a fine line. I don't want to take away his aggressiveness."

Frontrunning: OSU improved to 24-1 in the Sutton era when leading at the half.

Accuracy counts: OSU shot 84.2 percent from the free throw line. That's the Cowboys' best percentage in the last 30 games when shooting a minimum of 15 free throws.

Inaccuracy counts: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's 1-of-18 shooting performance from 3-point range was the worst in Gallagher-Iba history for a team that launched at least 15 treys. The old record was held by Baylor, which went 1-of-17 on Jan. 20, 1999.

Wait 'til next year: OSU, which played LSU, Marquette and Illinois at the EA Sports Maui Invitational, is scheduled to play in another high-profile early-season tournament next year.

The Cowboys will join Gonzaga, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State, Tennessee, Wichita State and Siena in the 2008 Old Spice Classic in Orlando.

Pickpockets: OSU, which leads the Big 12 in steals, has forced at least 19 turnovers in six of seven games this season. The Islanders committed 23 turnovers.

Wow Old Spice is still around. I thought that stuff disappeared from the market place a decade or two ago.
