LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.
The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.
Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.
Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease, saying, "I must reconcile courage and surrender in equal measure."

And he didn't get to see his victory with the Supreme Court re: gun control.....which makes me wonder......you think they had to pry the gun from his hand after he passed?

When my husband told me about him dying this morning my response was "I guess they can take his gun now"
RIP Charlton Heston!

I started to post a thread that said "Moses Dies" but I thought that might set off some additional panick with the basketball team.

He did a lot for the NRA, and civil rights. I hope is Alzheimer's wasn't too bad in the end. Chuck seamed like a real good guy on and off the screen. Ben-Hur is one of the best movies of all time.

I whole-heartedly support the NRA, except maching guns should be registered.
it's a love-hate thing with the NRA, KKK, Black Panthers; I believe in the right to assembly, but not the illegal activities that some of their members participate in.
( I suppose I could throw in UO fans in that mix as well....)

You cant lump the NRA, KKK & Black Panthers together.
The NRA is not a hate group. Are some NRA members connected to a hate group, more than likely yes.
But I bet some folks who have affiliation with hate groups are also church members, city council, PTA, etc.......
I dont have a problem with all guns being registered. But the folks with registered guns arent the problem. The folks who get registered & liscenced arent the ones doing drive by's, holding up convenience stores or mugging people.
Criminals dont register weapons. So if the anti-gun lobby spent their money to help fight crime & encarserating criminals they would acheive the purpose they are set out to do in the first place.

What exactly is a "maching" gun? Do you mean matching guns? If so I agree that all matching guns should be registered because those are likely the ones that all the well accessorized male couples (ie domestic partners) will be buying and we gotta watch those guys...
