Do you odds go up if they lose the game? If they win it all, what does that do?

I think if they win it all, KU's AD will give Self a blank check. It would then take a MONSTER offer for Self to leave (as if the rumored $4M for 10 years + a laundry list of incentives isn't a monster offer in and of itself!).

If they lose, we will be in a bidding war, and in the end it will come down to how badly Self and his family really want to return to SWO. To put it pessimistically, Self will use the OSU offer as a bargaining chip to get more at KU and we will start going down the "list" of candidates. Optimistically, Self will get the offer and his wife and family will want to be back in SWO bad enough for him to accept the offer.

I think he'll be OSU's next coach either way.

As much as I want to believe that, I have a hard time believing KU's AD will let Self just walk away should they win the national championship.

Im sticking with the same sentiments Ive had for months.

A Kansas National Championship is the best bet for us to get Bill.

If they win it all, Bill would have reached the pinacle of coaching success. What else is there for him to do at Kansas? Even if he wins 2-3 more in the next decade there, he will never be what he can be at OSU.

If he comes to OSU and gets that same kind of success, he will be Royalty at OSU. The beloved son who returned home to take his Alma Mater to the Glory Land.

And, a bidding war with Kansas..........really? Everything I heard is that Bill is the man that Holder, The Board of Regents, and yes Boone, want. Do you honestly think we would lose a bidding war? I dont. Bill will be making more than NBA coaches, if necessary. Unless Bill absolutely does not want to come home, money will not be the issue.

Another thing we have to consider is that with the draft and Seniors graduating, Kansas might be lacking a little next year. They are not going to fall out of the Big 12 race, but they wont be near as powerful as they are now. So, that could help us also.

I think this is the timetable we are looking at:

Monday - Kansas wins the NC
Teusday - Self and the Jayhawks celebrate with the university & fans.
Wednesday - Self speaks with Holder & accepts the deal.
Thursday - OSU announces Bill Self as Mens Basketball coach.
The OSU Family Rejoices

Friday - Thousands of OSU fans CONTINUALLY pummel the "experts" on OKC radio!!!

I look at this way:

If Kansas were to lose tonight to North Carolina, Self will be able to make a clean break with the Jayhawks and make his mark as head coach of his alma mater. If Kansas were to win the national championship (and I would be surprised if they did), he would have accomplished everything he set out to do when he took the KU job.

Either way, a door opens for him to come to OSU. I'm still optimistic about our chances.

Walk away? No
But a buyout will not be a problem.

And, KU will get another great coach. No questions asked. Heck, Larry Brown is wanting back into coaching. That could be a perfect opportunity for him to return to KU.

Tuba, one thing you have to realize is this. Regardless of what some of the local media hacks try to make us think (radio & print) the OSU job is now a destination job. There is a lot of interest in the position.

Eddie proved you can win here. Sean proved you can recruit good players to Stillwater. There are a lot of "name" coaches who want the job because of those two things, plus GIA, the fan base & now, The Money.

No worries. It's coming!!

As a caller stated on the radio a while back, we are building the orange death star and its scarring the hell out of the competition. So, they do all they can by using their mouthpeices in the media to try to make OSU look bad.

It's coming!!!

Their 3rd stringers could give most schools a run for their money.

Fortunately, I don't have to deal with the "local media hacks" anymore since I am all the way out here, though I still have to read the dribble that Sittler, Carlson, et al publish via the site ;)

I guess I remain cautiously optimistic. Until I see the news conference on ESPN, I will sit here in NC with baited breath for the announcement of the next head coach.

That wouldnt be his only motive. But, Im all for someone making as much money as they can. If OSU thinks he is worth the money, so be it. But, the more the price increases, so does the pressure. He will have to perform. And I think he will.

Like I said, they will not fall out of the race for the Big 12. They are a powerhouse! No questions about that whatsoever. And, for the record, I am a KU Hoops fan, when they arent playing my Cowboys. They are my #2 team. I wont wear their colors or nothing, but I do cheer for them. Kansas will get a new coach, and will be right back in the thick of things. They wont miss a beat.

Well I mapped out the Monday win timetable.

Say, something horrible happens and they loose tonight. (No! No! No!)

Yeah, I knew you arent exposed to it like we are, but I also know you read the board a lot, so the crap that is shared on here gets to you. It still seeps in! heh heh

Im also going to say this. If Self decides he doesnt want to come back I will not be crushed. I will be dissapointed, but I do know that we will get a good coach so Im not worried. I have just had the gut feeling for months that Bill would be the next guy, so Im sticking with it.

Self had an OSU clause in his first contract with KU that allowed him to come to OSU with no buyout, 1 million for everyone else. I am not 100% positive, but I believed it is still in place.

If they lose tonight, I still think it will be later than Monday before we hear that Self is our new coach, simply because the powers involved will probably stick around in San Antonio until the whole thing is over. AD's want and need as much face time as possible with other AD's and coaches so their name and face are out there if ever needed. Say Bill comes to OSU, stays for 4 years and then leaves for whatever reason (NBA, etc...). If we have to start a new search, Holder's name is already known and he has plenty of contacts from his time at the Final Four. My guess is, if we get him, it will be announced late in the week to allow time for the NCAA Champs to get their due and then we have all the spotlight.

I think the KU/UNC matchup is the better of the two tonight. If I weren't going to a Carolina Speed (http://www.carolinaspeedprofootball.com/) game tonight, I'd be watching it. I am sure they will give score updates between quarters :)

I don't think money will matter at all in this equation. Self will be making a butt-load regardless.

I think it will come down to a very emotional decision for him and his family, and I don't beleive there is any way anyone can predict what he will decide at the end of the day.

I really hope he comes, but hope never has been a very good strategy.
