I have a question for you.

I have some Television Shows, Movies, Games, etc. recorded on my DirecTV DVR.

How do I transfer them to my laptop & record them on DVD? I want to record them like actual DVD’s to watch, not data files.

I would also like to edit out the commercials.

I am not a big time computer guy, so please speak in Layman’s Terms!!!

Thanks

Simple answer is there are ways to do it. Some of them are more complex or costly.

You can get an MPEG Capture card or device for your computer and capture the output from your DVR to you hard drive.

You can get a DVD recorder device and hook it up to the DVR also. This is probably the most simple way to do it, but you won't be able to edit them on your laptop before you burn them if you want to do that.

to my knowledge there is not a way to just click and drag it to your computer HD. There are ways to hook it up to your computer and record it, but you have to literally play every show to record it.

I've got a dazzle, it's a unit that allows me to transfer video from my video camera to my computer. It's got your basic red, yellow, white AV hook up along with an S-video hook up. I've never tried hooking up my DVR to the thing but I can only assume that it would allow me to record what's playing onto my computer. However the amount of storage space would be pretty sizeable but if you do it one at a time I'm sure it could work.

I know you said that you have satellite, but if you ever get cable and get a tivo you can pull the shows off straight from the tivo to your computer over your home network. I can even pull HD shows off to my computer. Just something to keep in mind if this is something you do a lot.
