Well it's Dolly parton night on American Idol and while I listen to all kinds of music from country,pop,oldies,etc... I do know many of Dolly's songs,so I was looking forward to the show, and while there were some nice treats, there was also some dissapointing moments, let's look.......

We start off with one of my favorites Brooke White, doing the Parton classic "Jolene". White played the guitar, had a few band members with her as she sat down on the stage and strummed this classic. Certainly not Brooke's worst, nor her best performance. Just average. I was hoping she would have instead did "Coat of many colors",as I think Brooke woulda smashed that one outta the park,as that song just seems more her then "Jolene" did.

Next we go with David Cook, and while I have been plesently surprised by his ability to turn things into rock songs, aka Daughtry, I was alil shocked at his selection this week. I thought maybe he would do "Jolene" since it was done more recently by the white stripes, or even "Stairway to heaven" and "She drives me crazy by Fine young cannibals", both also covered by Parton, but no, David goes and does "Little Sparrow" a Parton unknown to me. It was ok,but nothing special at all.

Ramiele is up next and does "Do I ever cross your mind". Well Remi, ya looked cute, and to answer your question, no you won't cross our mind in a few weeks. It was also ok,but nothing special.

Then Jason Castro hits the stage, plays the guitar, stares into space,etc...yep same ol same ol,week after week after week. This time ol dreds looked lost doing "Traveling long". If I had been him,I woulda went with Partons song "Peace train" ,also covered by Cat Stevens. Might have been better for him,and couldn't have been any worse.

Finally a moment of hope for parton night,as Carly is up and does " Here you come again" . She hits the notes, had a powerful ending to it,and while she is certainly not one of my favs, I liked her performance tonight.

Next up is another person whom I think the judges try to feed us to much, and thats David A.. With him it's also the same ol same ol,week after week, but at least this week was better then most. Not sure why thou. He did "Smokey Mountain Memories",and while it won't have any lasting memories,it seemed better then his normal routine.

Then here comes Kristy lee Cook, and while country is right up her ally, and she;s smart, I think she also picked the wrong Parton song. She did "Coat of many colors",a song that again woulda been alot better suited for Brooke. Kristy shoulda did something more upbeat like "9 to 5","Romeo","Why'd you come in here lookin like that",etc....but instead she went slow. She did good,as again country is her style, but she coulda done better with a different song.

Then comes the most predictable moment of the night. Shyesha tries to do "I will always love you". Seems like she thinks she is Whitney Houston, and well girl you arn't. A very tough song, and most would be foolish to try,but some just have to I guess. That said,it was ok, but unless your Dolly or Whitney, this one is just best left alone. Again,it was ok,but outta her range.

We wrap up parton night with Michael doing "It's all wrong, but it's all right". I have never heard this song, but he did it ok,kinda soulful. Not nearly as good as he was last week with Queen, but still alright.

Ok,that said, since I got the bottom 3 correct last week,as well as who went home, let's try again................ the bottom three will be.....

Ramiele, Jason Dreradlocks, and David Cook.
Now I'm sure I'll screw my record up by putting David in there, but again he just wasn't as good as normal. Even if he is in the 3,he'll be the first sent back. Going home will be..........,,,,,,

Ramiele, and with a better more upbeat song, say "Two doors down",she might have stayed another week, and sent dreds home, but it is not to be, Remi will go.

On another note, again I listen to all kinds of music, and I like Dolly and I like Beatles, but why do some of these folks insist on doing the b-sides of singles,or some non hits nobody has heard of. I knew many of the Dolly and Beatles songs, but a few I was like, what's that? Why don't they all stick to the hits that more folks know, and thus be more willing to judge/vote for.etc...? For example where was " 9 to 5 " tonight? I'm hoping they do that and maybe "Islands in the stream" tomorrow as a group. We'll see.

Aggie out.

Switch Kristy Lee for David and I will agree with you. Last week was the ONLY week she hasn't been in the bottom three and that's because she did the Lee Greenwood song--basically saying 'you're not proud to be an American if you don't vote for me'. That poor girls is just way too Hee Haw for today's world.

I might also se Syesha there instead of Jason Castro. Castro's got a legion of teen girls that just love him and he did a respectable job on the song. Like you said, not exceptional, but steady Eddy. Syesha unfortunately drew the comparison to Whitney Houston which is a very, very, very foolish thing to do. It's sort like when the early entrants try to invoke Stevie Wonder--IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.

I think the reason that you don't see those songs is because all these kids are too young to realize those were the big hits. They were all born in the 80s and sucking their thumbs still when Dolly's movie made 9-5 huge. They weren't even a gleam in their parents' eyes when The Beatles were doing their thing.

I was shocked at some of the omissions from The Beatles nights. I noticed the older contestants did have better choices, but what we think of when we think of the Beatles or Dolly is not what these youngsters are going to think of first.

Personally, I think you're way off base about David Cook.

And I think Kristy is the least talented one up there and the next one to go home.

I hope Ramilee goes home but considering she's not yet been in the bottom two as far as I can remember I'll say Shyeesha and Kristy Lee with Shyeesha getting the boot.

AI keeps cramming Carly, David and David down our throats and I just think it's going to end up biting them all in the butt. I'm thinking Brooke will end up winning this thing and then join the ranks of Taylor Hicks, Rueben, and Fantasia as Idol winners that eventually end up on some "where are they now" segment on VH1 20 years from now.

My top 5 right now are David Cook, Carly, Brooke, Micheal, and Archuletta--that's based on who I think sings best and we all know it's at least 1/2 a popularity contest by now, so who knows how it will end up.

Well Verb, I think your right on a few points. I like David Cook, and he's one of my favorites, but I just did not like last nights performace at all. A better song selection would have helped him greatly.
As for Kristy, your also correct in that she is one of if not the weakest left,BUT she had a country style theme with Dolly, and thats what will save her this week. The first week she can't select a country song, she's like that roast in the oven. DONE!

What if I just put the roast in 5 minutes ago? It's really not "done". It's still raw. Kristy would be raw?

I thought Dolly sounded horrible tonight! How old is she now?

Well Dolly is up there, but my biggest gripe tonight was not Kristy Lee being in the bottom three, but Brooke being there. I knew she would be sent back, but the idea that boring week after week, dirty haired dredlocks wasn't in the bottom three is a joke. I'd almost be willing to bet that next week, he sits on a stool, plays poorly on his guitar, and then the same thr week after that. This Cat Stevens wannabe must have 9 lives. Again as for Kristy, she knows she's on borrowed time, and her 15 minutes are about up,it just depends on the theme.

Next week is "Idol gives back" so most likely nobody will be eliminated next week,as they will all perform, and have the votes added to the next weeks total. Thats my guess. So yes, another two Kristy Lee and Dredlock performances still to come.
And speaking of two, two weeks in a row I correctly picked the going home contestant.

I thought Dolly sounded horrible tonight! How old is she now?

Born on Jan. 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge, Tenn., into a poor family that would eventually include 12 children, Dolly Parton learned early to escape the hardships of life through her vivid and far-ranging imagination. Before she learned to read and write, she was "making up" her own songs. She got her first guitar when she was 8 and began singing on a Knoxville, Tenn., radio station at age 11. That same year, she made her first recording on Gold Band Records, a tiny independent label. She made a name for herself locally while still in high school, but she dreamed of a bigger stage. The day after she graduated in 1964, she moved to Nashville.

Her first charting records on Monument Records included "Dumb Blonde" and "Something Fishy," both in 1967. At about this time, Porter Wagoner was looking for a new "girl singer" for his syndicated television show. Parton accepted the job in 1967, signed with RCA Records in 1968 and joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1969.
