But I am really enjoying these Dolly Parton songs.

I think David Cook is incredible.

I agree. I didn't care for him at first, but he's turned out to be a genuine article. There is an awful lot of talent on that stage at this point so it's anybody's guess as to how the whole thing will end up, but David is my favorite so far.

I didn't watch, but let me guess which Dolly Parton song he sang.

Jolene?

Am I right?

Only say that because his MO has been to take the theme of the night, find some excellent rock remake that technically fits the theme......karaoke it, and get praised for what an original interpretation.

The White Stripes have been covering Jolene for years so that's what I figured he'd do tonight.

He's talented enough, but he's getting way to much credit for "originality" in his interpretations.

Just checked news reports. Happy to see he sang something else. "Little Sparrow" is a good song.

JD, as far as I'm aware David Cook has given credit to every arrangement he's borrowed for a given song. It hasn't been highlighted on the show, but he's not passing those versions off as his own.

BTW, why is that only a cardinal sin for a rocker? People borrow versions of songs from other singers all the time and they're not branded heretics for doing so. It's just a curious distinction for me.

I believe the Little Sparrow song was Cook's own arrangement.

David has certainly given more credit for the alternate versions than Daughtry did with Live's version of "I Walk the Line". My problem is yes, Seacrest slips in the intro, "Here's David singing so-& so's version of....".

The problem is when the judges start commenting, they seem to forget that. Their comments are always about how brave it was, or how courageous of a choice it was. They carry on like the performer just flat out when out on the edge and re-penned that classic song. They MUST be BRILLIANT.

So now the viewers that didn't catch the nod to the original, or haven't heard of that obscure version, are led a little, no a lot, by the judges, to think that this singer is the most genious performer who ever re-wrote a song.

I just don't think the judges give enough credit to the performer who wrote that alternate version. Their comments seem to make you think that David and Chris did.

AI is a little past his prime but with him Camby and Carmello, they should be able to get the 7th or 8th seed in the west....

The show is just Karaoke anyway. So whatever they sing it is not going to be original or creative. I just judge based on the performance, not the content.

Yes. Iverson is correct.
