Hey everyone. As you can see, this is my first post on this board. I post fairly often on OSI (different username).

Maybe some of you can shed some light on this for me. I can remember a time when Daniel Orton was close to being a lock to attend oSu. What went wrong? At some point along the way, did he develop a disliking for Sean?

The next thing I am wondering is IF we happen to end up with a new coach, will that significantly affect our chances with Daniel? At one point, Rivals had him listed as their number 1 ranked center in the country. It would be a shame to lose out on him, especially given that he is legacy (of sorts).

Welcome, Alfred! It's a gas to have you here. (Heehee)

As far as your question, I've seen all kinds of crazy stuff on other boards--that it's all bull, that Orton likes Sean just fine. Or that TC is bitter about OSU and thinks he should've been a star and hates Sean, and everything in between.

I wish somebody could shed some light on the situation.

Frank -- Thanks, I just might take you up on your offer and use it as my avatar. I am told that there is an uncanny resemblance between Alfred and myself. A real lady-killer (not)!! :cowboy:

Admittedly, I don't follow recruiting of BB all that closely, especially not Juniors that far out from being able to sign anything.

I don't recall him being "close to a lock", except for wild specualtion by OSU fans because his brother played here.

Here are some excerpts from interviews dating back a ways:

July 2007 - "My list is still wide open, getting bigger all the time," Orton said. "Ohio State, Oklahoma, Duke, Maryland, Kansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, just a whole lot." Orton said that he has no plans to decide anytime soon, and instead he'll focus on the rest of the summer and his junior season. Athletes First will travel to Orlando for the AAU events to finish their summer.

August 2007 - Orton rattled off a long list of schools he said he was interested in: “It’s really a wide variety of schools right now: Connecticut, Oklahoma, Florida, Syracuse, Maryland, Texas, Texas A&M, Kansas, Arkansas, UCLA, Arizona...and more.” When asked what schools he’d like to visit officially, though, he said, “Probably UCLA, Arizona, Maryland, Connecticut and probably Syracuse.”

September 2007 - Orton said he plans to take his time in making a decision. He hopes to narrow his list of 20 to 25 schools who have already offered scholarships to “five to eight, if possible, by early next summer,” said the well-spoken Bishop McGuinness junior. “I’m probably going to go through the whole process, and take all five of my official visits. I’m pretty open right now. I’m just listening to what everyone has to say.”

January 2008 - “Coaches have asked me if I want them to recruit me harder,” Orton said, “or keep recruiting me like they are. “I told them they can keep recruiting me like they are because I’m not ready to focus on recruiting,” he added.

In addition, Orton's Uncle is an assistant at OU, right in his own backyard.

I don't think that Sean, or Eddie or anybody else that we could bring in would make any real difference... this kid has guys like Coach K, Ben Howland, Roy Williams, and Jim Calhoun in his living room (just to name a few)

He has over 25 offers from almost every top notch program in the county.

Besides, OSU had trouble keeping kids like Sheldon Williams even when Eddie was the HC...

Obi told us that Orton told him back when he visited...oh, I don't remember, around Jan, Feb....that when it came down to it in the end, it would be OSU and another team. I mean, thats what Obi said, and Obi said he thinks we will still get him, but much in the way that coach Luper thinks he will sign every kid he recruits, I don't put much stock in that.
