Well folks, here's some Idol chatter. First off, good to have no Beatles. One week was good, but a second was more then enough, so instead tonights theme was picking a song in the year the contestants were born. Boy,did I feel old :)

We start off with Ramiele doing Hearts "Alone". While it was no Carrie Underwood, this was the best performance by Rami since we stared the final 12. She showed the voice we knew she had,it was upbeat,etc...

Moving on to Jason Castro doing "Tears from the storm". Surprise,he played a guitar, sat on a stool,etc....yep,same ol stuff we have seen for 6 weeks, yet nobody tells him to shake things up,that he's boring.etc....Kinda like being at a pizza parlor and having a guy there playing a guitar. Yawn.

On stage next is Syesha, and while I thought she was the best last week, she was just ok this week while doing "If I was your woman". She was good, but I just didn't like the song. Nothing special.

Chikezie then is up,and unlike the last two weeks of plesent surprises, this week continues the boring trend,by him doing "If only for one night". Nothing upbeat, like Syesha, nothing special, no wow factor.

We then turn to Brooke White who returns to her style, and does " Every breath you take" the Police classic. She returns to the Piano, and does it well, slowing it down, making it her own. The judges didn't like it when the band joined part way thru, but on this song, ya kinda need the band to join at some point. Still good, and better then last week.

Now the show has begun, Michael the Aussie takes over and does "We are the champions",and well it was the single best performance of the night. Lots of fun,and really got things going.

Carly is up next and takes on "Total eclipse of the heart". She was good, not great but still solid, and while I'm not a Carly fan,it was one of her better performances.

David Arculata is then up and does "The Voice". the kid is good, but I just feel the judges try to push him on us. This performance was more like being at a revival or maybe a Michael W Smith concert at best. He's pretty much the same week after week, but the judges never say anything about that with him.

Then we turn to Kristy Lee Cook, and man is this girl smart. The last few weeks, she easly coulda been a goner, but somehow got lucky to survive, then this week, given a chance to pick a country song, she does. She did "God Bless the USA",and did it well, her best performance of the show so far,and add in the fact of all the stuff going on overseas, and with our military, and well she was so smart, picked a song that will get her votes, make folks remember her this week.....No going home this week .

Finally we wrap it up with David Cook, and while I look at him as a poor mans Daughtry, and also as one of the favorites, another word I gotta add to him now is Ballsy. He took Michael Jacksons "Billie Jean" and did it as a slow rock, and well he made it his own,and made it work big. To take one of MJ's signature songs, and completly change it up,yet make it work.well again, Amazing, good and Ballsy.

Bottom 3 will be: Jason Dreadlocks, Syesha, and Chikezie.
Going home is Chikezie.

Davi Cook really shouldnt get all that much credit for that version of Billie Jean, even though he did it well. What he did was cover Chris Cornells version of the song that came out last year.

Much like Daughtry was made out to be a "ballsy" genious when he did such an outstanding "rewrite" of Johnny Cash I Walk The Line. Problem was, nobody ever mentioned that it was a direct replay of Live's version of the song.

Cook and Daughtry both did good jobs, but neither was original, as apparently EVERYONE seemed to think.

Ramiele sucked.
Castro good but boring.
Syesha was aight. She's also full of herself.
Chikezie was aight.
Brooke was above average.
Michael stunk. He's also full of himself.
Carly did a great imitation of Bonnie Tyler singing Total Eclipse of the Heart.
David A. sang something.
Kristy was smart. Whatever the hell that means. She was pretty good though.
David C. ripped off an unknown cover and didn't let on that it wasn't his.

Bottom 3:
Ramiele
Syesha
Carly

Goodby Rami.

You're not missing much. I missed the first Big Brother show so I never got into it. I guess no one is watching The "british" Bachelor, Beauty and the Geeks Part III, the Biggest Loser and/or Oprah's Big Give (one of my favorites). You know, there's just too much mindless entertainment to watch!

Actually, Ryan credited Chris Cornell at the intro of the song. You probably missed that.

I had mentioned earlier that both Chris' and David's shtick were the same: take some applicable song redone by someone in the rock genre and sing that. I think he could have done just as well if he would have done The Bates' version of Billie Jean (and no one would have EVER heard it) or hell even Fall Out Boy's cover of Beat It (which is brand new and not many would have heard it).

Blondie should have been gone long ago, but there is always ONE that stays in because she is the last 'pretty' one.

Was suprised last week to see skunk-head go. Not so much because she did or didn't deserve it, but she had never been in the bottom 3 and I thought this was much better than the last week.

I was completely suprised to see Carly in last week's 3. I think Simon is going to sabotage her by constantly saying she can't pick a good song no matter how good she sounds.

Not suprised to see Chickize go; was his time. Was a little suprised to see the black chick, tho I think she needs to go too, and was very suprised to see Jason in it. I like Jason a lot, plus I thought he did a great version of Sting (who I dig). His big thing is he needs to stop the crap and act like he really wants to be there. His lackadaisical attitude is gonna get him voted off.

It is clear that Brooke, David and David are the clear front runners. Brook gets waxed by the judges 2 out of 3 weeks and is way safe. Plus she sings pretty, heartsy songs. Rocker David's thing may get old like Chris' did. Peewee David is prolly gonna start singing Jonas Brothers stuff and have every 13-year old in America voting for him.

NEED TO GO:
Blondie Jo; Syesha; Ramiele
Rami just plain ain't that good.

IN THE FLUX:
Carly, Michael, Jason
I think Michael is extremely limited. If you notice he has gotten mized reviews every time except when he has sang Queen songs. Can't sing a Queen song every week.
Carly is completely capable of that one transending moment that will have her sailing into the top 3 or 4; she just needs to do it.
Jason can't do a Cat Stevens version of every song and he looks like an idiot without his guitar.

SAILING:
Brooke, David x2
All 3 are completely cubbie-holed and a step outside their comfort zone could prove costly. Little David still hasn't worn out the 'aaawww' factor, but give it time.

I forecast the Top 5 to be David, David, Michael, Carly and Brooke. Things are usually pretty normal up until that point. Around the top 4-5 is when someone crazy gets voted off. Last year it was Top 3, as everyone thought Melinda was a shoe-in and didn't make the final 2. Year before Chris didn't make the final 3. Year before that, Constantine didn't make the final 5 (but the big fat white guy did). Season 3, the best singer (and turns out most talented) Jennifer Hudson didn't crack the top 6 and NO one suspected that.

I guess what I'm saying is that there will be at least one shocker coming soon, but I think the 5 is fairly set. There does always seem to be one suprise at the top 3, tho.

I hadn't heard the song that Chikezie sang but I thought it was good. Simon said it was song selection that hurt Chikezie but what is a rhythm and blues person going to sing other than an R&B song? Maybe he sang it better last night than the night before but I thought "dregs" Jason was much worse and boring.

Maybe it is a popularity contest.

Carly being in the bottom three is not necessarily a bad omen. Didn't all the winners with the exception of one year all spend at least one week in the bottom 3? I thought I remember hearing that tidbit before.

I don't think you can criticize rocker David for doing that version, because it worked well enough. He did do it justice.
