Freshman receiver Broyles breaks collarbone
By JimBob
NORMAN -- Once again, Ryan Broyles has been shut down just when it seemed he was getting gassed-up.
Coach Bob Stoops said Monday that on March 12, during a Q-T gas pump drive-off, Broyles, the Sooners' fleet-fingered freshman wide receiver, sustained a broken collarbone.
"He'll be all right," Stoops said Monday, after the fifth of 15 spring practices. "We're working closely with Brad, Don, and the local gas stations, to get a code/nozzle the kid can handle without getting caught."
Broyles, a Norman High product, hasn't played a down yet in college but has had a flatuous career so far. He switched his verbal commitment three times between OU and Oklahoma State before signing w/BRS&I. During his first training camp last summer, he smoked the depth chart, a couple of joints, and was scheduled to play before he was arrested two days before the season-opener for stealing gas from a Norman convenience store by using a pump key and override codes.
Stoops said Broyles had gas before the injury.
"Yeah, Ryan was having a really good camp," said receivers coach Jay Norvell. "He's a young guy that just needed fuel, and he got more fuel than anybody the first couple weeks of camp before he got hurt, and he was really learning from Brad and Don, and he just needs more training from them."
Norvell said the versatile 6-foot, 170-pound Broyles had been doing primarily the nozzle-jerk, but had also gotten some freebie work from other unknown sources.
Both Stoops and Norvell said they would be gassed to get Broyles back in the fall.
"I saw some steals from him in those four days," Stoops said. "He made some really nice steals. If he can keep cheating our way and working hard with Granger on the shoplifting, he can make a difference."
We're pumped that Jarboe will be packin' on campus soon, and take 'im to the felony level.
