My wife and daughter and I took a Carnival cruise over spring break, along with this other family with whom we are friends. We left from Port Canaveral and went to Nassau, St. Thomas, and St. Martin.
At Nassau, we were on the beach and this college chick walks down to the water and starts talking to my wife, because my wife had on an orange OSU t-shirt. The girl turns out to be a Zeta at OSU, so her chapter advisor is one of my best friends. The girl and her Zeta friends are on the same cruise we are. So, I'm thinking small world, and it's interesting how the OSU gear opens conversations.
2 days later, all 14 of our traveling party go into this little nondescript restaurant in St. Thomas for lunch. This time, I had on the orange t-shirt. No sooner are we seated than some guy already eating lunch sees my shirt, and says, "Are you guys from Oklahoma? We're from Yukon!!" Well, I live in Yukon. The guy and his family have won the use of a beach house somewhere in the islands in an auction, and came over to St. Thomas to eat and shop that day. He has a kid in my daughter's school, and his wife is the PTO president or something. Small world again.
Then the door opens and a family come in and wait to be seated. I'm thinking it, but my wife says out loud "Hey! That's Bob Stoops". A lot of the other folks in our party are OU grads, so they're all Hey Coach and Boomer Sooner. I say, "Orange Power, Coach," and he grins and flashes me the upside-down hook-em. I'm sure the last thing he expected was to walk into a restaurant in St. Thomas full of a bunch of people from Oklahoma. BTW, he didn't have on anything OU, but he was wearing a Titleist visor.
So to me it's just odd that you travel all that distance, only to run into people from where you live, or who know people that you know.

I don't think Bob and family were on the cruise. I should've paid the waiter to spit in his drink or something...

I was going to try to take a pic of my daughter and her friend and get Stoops in the background. But every time I picked up my camera, he either moved a little to get behind one of his kids, or lowered his head and messed with his visor. After the 2nd time, it was clear that he was not going to be in the background of any photos, so I quit trying.

Carrying on the "small world" theme....
My father-in-law was eating breakfast in Denver wearing some OSU shirt. This guy comes over asks to join him for breakfast. As he was joining him, he introduced himself as Terry Miller. Made my father-in-laws whole trip. Terry even came by our tailgate at one of the games last season.

That's awesome! Growing up in the 70's and being an OSU fan, Terry Miller is one of my heroes. Especially since he was part of 31-24 in 1976.

I would have DIED! I was at OSU when Terry played. I had a massive crush on him, as did all the girls. Wow. What a great story!

I got my picture with him at the KU tailgate last year. I felt like a kid asking for his photo, but I just couldn't help it.

I love small world stories like that.
Great picture, casdas. I still see Turner around Stillwater (he worked for UPS for ages...but now that I think about it, I haven't seen him making deliveries on campus lately). I hear that Terry still lives here, but I haven't seen him in a long time.

Miller was Heisman runner up to Earl Campbell who did not win the votes in the southwest region where writers had seen both. Campbell won only because it utexass

Terry Miller was the star player when I was in school. He was one of my favorites too! We even traveled to his last game at Iowa State and froze our you-know-whats off. The wind was blowing so hard that one of the field goals into the wind landed behind where OSU kicked it. And we lost. Typical.
Speaking of small worlds, when I was down in Ft. Worth watching Chris play we noticed one of the kids that was paired with Chris looked familiar. Come to find out it was one of the kids Chris played with and got to know during his junior golf days. The father came up and introduced himself and come to find it he grew up in Stillwater and is a big OSU fan. He told me he had heard about the $40 million 10-yr deal for Self and I thought "Wow! People in Ft Worth have even heard that rumor!"
