View Full Version : Charter Bus trip to Insight Bowl...?

Just thinking out loud here...
Seems many are struggling with the cost/effort to get to the Insight Bowl. I share those struggles myself.
One idea would be to organize a Charter bus Bowl trip. The idea would be to leave from the Tulsa area Friday Dec 28th timed to hit the Phoenix area about check-in time at the local hotel. We could stop in OKC and points west as necessary to pick folks up. The bus would be able to provide transportation to and from the game as well as any associated fan activities. We'd head back to Oklahoma first thing on Tuesday morning, January 1st.
I've never priced a trip of this distance before. If we could get 50 people willing to participate, I'm hopeful that the pricing would come out around $125 per person. Hotel / Game ticket would NOT be a part of the package, it is transportation only. And let me say, there would be no "profit motive" for the trip. We'd simply divide the costs by the passenger count.
If this is of interest to you, so indicate by posting under this thread. If it looks like we have sufficient interest, I'll call around and see what I can put together.

Looks like we might have enough folks to make it worthwhile....
I've called a couple places already and have not been able to find an available bus. I've got requests out to a couple other places from which I should hear back tomorrow....

Maybe the Sooners have alread chartered all of them. Man, can you imaginie being on a bus full of Sooners all the way to Arizona? I think I would rather cross the Sahara Desert on a camel.

-- Good point RedDirt .. they will need lots of tissues for the tears, tea cups for the sippers, and they better give maps to find the location on the campus for the bus pick-up .. since most of them going would not be able to locate the OU campus other than the football stadium...

I thought Paperclip fans only ride on short buses?

Time got back with me today. Really nice, comfortable equipment. (They are the only place I've been able to find an available bus).
* Leaving Tulsa 10:00 AM, Friday 12/28/07.
* Returning about 10:00 PM, Tuesday January 1st.
* Includes transfers to and from the Insight Bowl on December 31st.
* We'll stop in OKC and points west to pick up passengers if needed.
* Lodging not included.
Price is $175 per person, based on 45 people.
E-mail me at Pokevette@aol.com with a firm number if you want to make the trip. If we have 45 people firm by this Sunday evening, I'll reserve the bus on Monday.

Vette . . . Does transportation to and from the stadium anticipate everyone staying at the same hotel?

Everybody does not have to stay at the same hotel. It would be best if we were all at least in the same vicinity. The deal includes 100 miles of "transfers" during our time in Tempe. Once we know who is going, we'll figure out the hotel thing. It may be that some folks would need to change their hotel accomodations so as to be somewhat more "central" to the group as a whole.
I'm also hearing some folks saying they would rather leave Friday night late, drive during the night and get to the hotels about check in time on Saturday. That would be fine as well. So we would need hotel accomdations for three nights (Sat/Sun/Mon). We could even cut one night off the hotel if we wanting to check out on Monday and leave for home directly from the game.
Bottom line, this a is flexible deal to fit the "majority rule"...

Only have committments from about a dozen folks so far. That leaves us well short right now. We need more firm to make it happen.
E-Mail me at Pokevette@aol.com if interested.

Well, the trip simply did not have the required interest....
Thanks to those who considered the idea. Maybe next time, we'll be able to make things work.

Good effort though.
I'm beginning to wonder if there's even 45 people going to the game.:o
