Actor, former Marine Corps drill instructor R. Lee Ermey to make Oklahoma City appearance at Bass Pro Shop.

Award-winning actor and former Marine Corps drill instructor R. Lee Ermey will make an in-store appearance from noon to 3 p.m. today at Bass Pro Shop in Bricktown.
Ermey, popularly known as "The Gunny," will be meeting with fans to sign autographs and take pictures.
Most recently featured as the voice of "Sarge" in "Toy Story 3," Ermey has starred in numerous films, receiving a Golden Globe nomination and Boston Society of Film Critics Award for best supporting actor in director Stanley Kubrick's 1987 film, "Full Metal Jacket."
He is the star of History Channel's "Lock and Load with R. Lee Ermey" and recently appeared in a popular television ad for Geico.
Ermey served 11 years of active duty with the Marine Corps.
He rose to the rank of staff sergeant, served two years as a drill instructor while also doing a tour (1968) in Vietnam.
Medically retired in 1971, Ermey enrolled at the University of Manila in the Philippines, where he studied drama. There, Francis Ford Coppola, who was filming "Apocalypse Now" in the area, cast Ermey in a featured role.
On May 17, 2002, Ermey received an honorary promotion to gunnery sergeant, becoming the first retiree in the history of the Marines to be promoted.
