STILLWATER – Jamie Blatnik, one of Oklahoma State's three player representatives at last week's Big 12 Media Days, has been cited for felony aggravated assault and battery following an alleged fight with a former teammate inside a Stillwater bar.
OSU defensive end Jamie Blatnik cited for assault and battery According to a news release issued by the Stillwater Police Department, witnesses told officers that Blatnik fought with former Cowboy Stephen Denning inside J.R. Murphy's, a club located at 306 S Washington, starting the scuffle by striking Denning in the face with a beer bottle.
Blatnik, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound junior, is projected as a starting defensive end after totaling 28 tackles as a part-time starter a year ago. He was chosen to join quarterback Brandon Weeden and linebacker Orie Lemon in representing the Cowboys at the Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday in Irving, Texas.
OSU coach Mike Gundy was unavailable for comment late Sunday night.
Denning, a former offensive lineman who completed his eligibility in 2008 and graduated this year, was taken by police officers to the hospital, where he was treated for a fractured orbital socket. In addition, he required several stitches to his left upper eyelid and upper cheekbone.
In the release, officers reported that Denning was “bleeding profusely” from a cut on his left eye.
Officers were notified of the fight and called to the club at 1:17 a.m. Saturday morning. According to the release, officers escorted Blatnik and Denning outside. As officers were interviewing Denning, he saw Blatnik and forced his way through several officers in an attempt to continue the fight. As a result, officers used a Taser to subdue Denning.
Denning was cited with a misdemeanor complaint of assault.
Several witnesses came forward and identified Blatnik as the instigator in the fight, according to the release. Witnesses did not suggest what started the fight.
