Oklahoma State has attacked the problem of players skipping classes with an innovative way to keep check on them.
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said the school is paying students $7 per hour to monitor attendance of Cowboys players in their classes.
"Back in the day we used to miss class all the time because they couldn't check us -- they didn't have the man power," Gundy said.
Oklahoma State officials used to hire administrative interns to check classes, but players started noticing them. Under the new plan, the players don't know who is checking on them.
"We know everything these guys do. They can't get away with it," Gundy said. "Some girl with Coke-bottle glasses sitting next to them in class might be the one who is checking up on them."

Where can I get this job?
On a related note, one of the football players is in one of my classes. He was telling us that the assistant coaches are no inspecting the apartments, dorms and houses of the players to keep problems away.

Oh gawd, I'm so sorry, but hiring "tattletale spies" might be considered juvenile in some circles. I forgot it's Gundy and he gets a pass on everything, including insulting the "visually-impaired". :vomit-smiley-001:

It's a pretty common practice at major D1 schools...I know OU has class checkers, as one of my exes was one of them for a while...I like the way Gundy is handling things at OSU...honestly, I know a bunch of OU fans want to try and find faults with him and they'll look at the rant and the handling of Spano's scholarship, but I find it hard to fault him for the way he's been handling his team....
The one thing that I've had a problem with has been how he's handled the Reid situation, but for the most part, I think he'll turn out to be a good coach in the long run...

I think it's a freaking genius move and something I'm glad to hear he's doing. I didn't seem him insulting anyone, maybe the girl with the coke bottle glasses is really hot like Racheal Leigh Cook but just needs contacts or something :)

I think its a good idea for every school.
College kids make much needed beer money, and the players go to class. Id much rather that, then have OSU get into trouble for grade issues.
we love ya Jimbob........its that dang ole poodle that angers me! :cool-smiley-027:

Let the Ace ask this important question here ; What in hell is this world coming to when the coach starts entering a dorm without the player's consent ? if what i heard was true that he entered a dorm and four players were pulling a ricky ; I for one would ask, " hey jimmy johnson jr or mr hair spray warden have you ever heard of knocking ? or I would make sure a defensive tackle was blocking the door to keep gundy from interferring with good ole american fun.
serriously Gundy is doing the right thing here, but I cant help but to watch the freedoms of our people being yanked away even by the coach ;who by the way will probally kick a few more players off the team before the start of next season. that is the gundy way , recruit 15 players and kick 5 off the team .
I hate it when I have to take Jim Bob's side on a issue but I hold privacy a valuable asset and not even Mike Gundy has my aproval to bust a party in the privacy of a dorm room.
I wonder what Coach Gundy would do if osu had a colorful personality like Pacman Jones to entertain his teammates with some high value entertainment ?
it would be interesting to have a defensive tackle at the door and have him ask Gundy for a $100. dollar cover charge .

Annie, BBB and the rest of the owners/mods pay Ace to get on here and type a bunch of bull so the rest of us have something to get worked up about.

Ace, I would think that consent is given when the player accepts the scholarship from the school. As a "paid" representative of OSU and one that is in a public light more so than other students; and if his "boss" feels that extra action/attention is needed to keep OSU looking good in the publics ( and Jenny's) eyes, that is part package deal.

Ace, I also believe that stories like this would happen less often if player knew their rooms might be searched.

Marquis Booker -- a reserve Missouri linebacker arrested on a felony gun charge -- has been kicked off the Missouri football team. Chad Moller, MU assistant athletic director and sports information director, said that will be confirmed following the conclusion of today's spring football practice by coach Gary Pinkel. Moller said no suspension was anticipated for Jeremy Maclin and Sean Weatherspoon, MU starters who were interviewed by police on Sunday but were not detained. Booker was arrested by police shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday following an incident in which he reportedly brandished a 9 mm handgun during an argument outside the Gateway of Columbia apartments.
