a guy at my work is thinking about buying a very used Volvo with 150k miles from 1992.

Was wondering what the consensus is on reliability. Are they like Toyotas or Saturns? Or is it like most cars that old.....a complete crapshoot?

Usually Volvo owners keep their car's maintenance records as a selling point when they want to sell their vehicle. Volvo has always made it easy to keep your vehicle in check. As an owner, you know before hand the associated cost for your vehicle's routine tune-ups. Usually they come in 15,000 to 25,000 mile increments. Volvo doesn't change their engine, block or drive trains. They are included in every make & model.

Biggest problem I had was muffler replacement, and I drove the wheels off the car as a commuter.

Performance-wise, don't the cars with engines work better than the ones without an engine? ;)
