We sure aren't getting a lot of love nor respect from the Big 12 mags.
Most have us picked just above Baylor in the South. One comment ...
"will it ever happen for OSU"?...and the guy answered, NO! His reasoning was that we have done all we can do facilities wise but we just can't land and keep: A big time coach and bunches of big time talent, plus he said there was just no positive history with Texas nor Okla.
Guess he is close to being on the money but man it hurts.:furious3:

Hi Jbug. I didn't read the article you mentioned but whoever he is... He will be eating crow in about 6 months. In fact I like his opinion, I hope all the other coaches read it and swallow it hook, line and sinker. We will surprize them all.

Welcome, Stu. Post often!

And I agree--it always works to our advantage to fly under the radar.

Don't really know what to expect out of this season.
We lost a lot of Seniors, and we have a new O being installed.
From the outside looking in, I wouldn't expect much either.

If the team wants respect they got to earn it.
Also, games are played on the field, not on the pages of a magazine.

Lets let the season play out before you get too upset.....
Pre-Season prognostication is just a way to sell mags & make money.

I think the preseason magazines are a bit more than just a way to make money (certainly they are that), but most often the analysis is done by the conference beat writers, which is a good way to get some decent information on most teams.

Predicting a finish is always a dicey proposition, but if you look at it as more of a way to gather information on what may be going on with a particular program, then the magazines are usually a good source for that.

Use the information however you see fit, but it is a nice way to get a decent synopsis of the various teams.

Based on current info, putting us near the bottom seems reasonable.

However, I DO think we have some pieces of the puzzle that might just surprise some people!

I have no idea how well we will actually do but I like our talent level, our experience level not so much. Historically, 1 and 2 in the South are pretty well taken, and there isn't a lot of difference between 3 and 5, sometimes just the schedule. Anybody could write an article about the south and make it seem plausible. I like our chances this year with all the new, young, good talent.

Question...how do you all feel about .... "do we have the coaches to make them believe (the players) they can do it and that they are as good or better than their rivals"? Sure seems like we get some coaching during each year that hints of just trying to stay in the game/not give it away...and NOT let's go beat the hell out of 'em??? Just wondering!

I think our coaches are ready to kick butt. Halvorson didn't come in to Stillwater just wanting to not get embarassed and, I believe, Bill Young's success speaks for itself. Mike is certainly no loser. He is as competitive as anybody around, he just needed a little help. If we get beat it will be because the other team just has better players.

It is hard to say just how good we will be this year...but who is to say the other teams in the south are going to be all that great. TT and TA&M aren't necessarily going to be great, and even Texas may struggle a little without Colt. They sure didn't look all that great when he went out against Alabama. Baylor could be better, but probably not much. Only OU looks to be set up for a good year. Quarterback with a years experience and a defense that could be really good. Any way it happens, I won't be surprised, but I bet we will have a decent year.

Who is Halvorson?

Sorry about the spelling, Holgorsen. He is the new OC. I know a guy named Halvorson, just got them confused.

All our coaches used to be named Samsonite because they never unpacked their suitcases. Thank God that is no longer the case.
