View Full Version : Mad at ESPN ...about OSU's situation

Ok, so I have a bone to pick with ESPN...
First, I tired to get confirmation on-line for sure where we will be playing (Alamo, Independence, Insight, etc...) without watching the BOWL SELECTION SHOW on ESPN last night.
Still showed OSU possiblities (ranged between Alamo to Insight to Independence) so no solid information.
Well, my thinking is ok so I have to watch the bowl selection special... no big deal I will get to see who is going where and they stated that they will examine each bowl and talk about each matchup... OK so I also get to hear what they think of us versus whoever we are going to play.. I am OK with this...
Well 2 hours later (after hearing an hour of arguing about why Les Miles stayed at Michigan and if LSU deserves to be in the NC) we finally get down to telling about the Insight Bowl....
Sure enough all my time wasted finally pays off (so I think)...we get annouced as playing Indiana... good .. ok... and then we get a 15 second run down of Indiana... and then "OSU..good offense"... then they go on and talk 20 minutes about Missouri and the Cotton Bowl...
WHAT A SHAFT AND A WASTE OF TIME .... When they stated "expert" analysis of each game they should have put a disclaimer saying : EXPERT ANALYSIS OF THE BCS GAMES, LES MILES JOB, MISSOURI, AND 15 SECOND TALKING FOR ALL OTHER BOWLS PLUS EGO TRIPPING EX-COACHES WHO THINK BUT DON'T KNOW ABOUT ANYTHING..
Waste of time....

Our bowl is a minor bowl. Unless Gundy performs another tirade, OSU isn't going to get much attention until the day of the game. I'm glad they didn't bring up OSU's defense. whew.

I don't know that even on the day of the bowl we will get much information or acknowledgment. We will be televised on NFL network versus ESPN or ESPN2 therefore they are NOT going to hype this game at all.
Why hype a game on a competing network when you want viewership for your network games so you can charge advertisers more money?
Nope, I think the only time you will see anything about OSU vs Indiana will be after the fact when they show short highlights and announce a score.
Such is the life of a cowboy fan.

The NFL network isn't at all bad. DirecTV and Dish both carry it and I've had it since its inception. That said, the Insight Bowl is a minor bowl and OSU is going to have to do better than .500 to get much press time beyond Gundy's rant. We orange faithful like to point out our SOS and whatever to point at moving forward, but it's hardly remarkable to the rest of the world.
Them's the breaks...

They might be the breaks but we're not in the DirecTV/Dish Network Bowl. You're still removing (at best) half of the fans from seeing the game when you put it on satellite.

I have Dish network but I do think it is bull that a network that is suppose to be about the NFL is showing college bowl games. It cuts out a alot of O-State fans and Indiana fans from watching their teams play the last game of the year.

You've simply got to exceed the mediocre for the rest of the country to give a crap. It may sound harsh, but in my opinion we're lucky to be in a bowl at all.
When we start beating some good teams, the rest of the country will want to watch us play. Until then, it's trips to Buffalo Wild Wings to see the bowl game. That's just how it is.

For Direct TV people, it's on 212 if you have the right package. Why ESPN and/or Fox can't be bothered is anyone's guess.
Must be a good bass fishing tourny or something.. :p

It's on channel 154 for DishNetwork subscibers. Whew. Thank God I get it. I'm in a bit of a quandary about going to the Bowl Game this year. My wife just started at Chesapeake and doesn't have any time off accrued yet. She said I could go If I wanted to, but, that's like saying, "You can go, but you better not go without me."

Mediocrity doesn't have a damn thing to do with it.
1. There are 30 plus some odd bowls and that's all football fans have to do during the holidays.
2. We average 44,000 for football games and I bet Indiana does something close to that. If 10k of ours and 10k of theirs go to the game that leaves 60 thousand watching from home. Say that half have satellite or know somebody who does that still leaves 30k people that can't watch. That's not talking into account the poor slob that doesn't have jack to do but get ready for a New Year's party by watching a 6-6 squad and a 7-6(or whatever they are) squad play football.
3. The NFL network for a college bowl game is a joke that leaves too many not watching. Even pro fans don't BUY the extra package to get the NFL network, hence the uproar about Dallas/GreenBay last week.
Not many bowls other than the BCS games are ones the whole country tunes in to watch. So the idea that we have to play better than mediocre to get the country's attention is a red herring.

Just a thought here, you could call up your satelite company the day before the game and cancel it the day after the game. The cost is $10. My daughter check into it since I will be in Oklahoma during that time, she has DirecTV and that is what she is going to do so I can watch the game. Of course, Keith will watch and record it for me here too. Juatn a thought.
