View Full Version : ESPN: Texas considering Big 12 Deal
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5285680
Salient points:
"Texas stands to earn between $20 million and $25 million annually in television revenue, including money from its own network, in the reworked deal, according to Orangebloods.com.
The Longhorns network figures to generate between $3 million and $5 million, according to the report. Because the Big 12 has unequal revenue sharing, the deal will mean more money for Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who all would receive at least $20 million annually from the new deal.
The other schools seven schools in the Big 12 would make between $14 million and $17 million, doubling what they currently receive in TV revenue."
Texas screws us over again.
Were they ever even planning to go to the Pac 10, or was that all a sham to manipulate the TV networks in to more money for themselves?
I think this thing is over.
I just don't get why Texas A&M stands to benefit so much. What have they ever done to deserve that? Is it their long list of national championships?

I hope OSU & the other school's will not stand for this.
Texas may say they want to move forward with this dictatorship of the Big 12, but if enough schools say "screw you" to the Horn's, this thing can backfire on Texas.
It only take a majority vote to dissolve the conference. Right now, that means 6 votes. If every other school doesn't like the discrepancy of money being paid to Texas, just vote to dissolve.
Doesn't that put the power in the hands of all the other schools?
I think the "forgotten five" are so grateful to be in a conference they'd vote anything just to keep the B12 together.
I'm sure that there is no offer from any other conference for the rest of us without Texas. So we have no leverage.
Basically, the five are all thrilled, UT, aTm and OU make out like bandits, and Tech and OSU are screwed.

Exactly. The North schools & Baylor will give Texas whatever they want if it means they stay in a BCS league. It's a stay of execution for them.
The other crap part is that this will give Texas a window to get their UT network up and running before ditching out for another league. If it's a pre-existing entity, it's a lot harder for a new conference to make them give it up.
If this happens, it will be the biggest screwjob done to OSU Athletics since the Big Six left us behind in the Missouri Valley.
What sucks is that we will go along with it willingly.

Yeah, this whole thing stinks bad.
But we should consider this...
We're talking about a $6mm difference in revenue. Proportionally, that's a lot smaller gap we have in other areas (attendance, etc). Our increased donor revenue more than makes up for this difference. I don't see the big difference, especially if it means a doubling of the previous revenue. It would increase our existing resources, which have grown notable.
So, yeah, screw job...but maybe not as bad as expected.
My only concern is this: if there is that much revenue depending on Texas success...what is the likelihood of getting a fair game in certain close circumstances? Officials protected UT in Stillwater, they protected UT in the Big XII championship game, etc. This system WILL go against us in that regard.

The Pac-10 will up the offer. Texas is using Bebee to negotiate with the Pac-10.
Watch for it.

I hope you are correct.
I really don't like the future of this particular version of the big 12.

So let me get all of this straight.
The Big 10 will have 12 teams.
The Big 12 will have 10 teams.
TX/aTm/Ou will treat the rest of us like their bitches.
And even if OU and TX win out, the conference slate will be so weak in most years (MU, KU, KSU, ISU, Baylor will = 5 of their 9 conference wins), it will most likely keep them out of the BCS title game due to weakness of schedule.
The money even for TX will be LESS than what they would make in the Pac.
So, is TX doing this SOLELY to keep aTm from bolting alone to the SEC?
This MAKES NO SENSE........on ANY level

The Big12 carries no weight in the media markets. Anyone have XM and Sirius radio? How many games were broadcast? Maybe 1 or 2.
The Big12 or UT network will carry nothing of interest, mostly ex-jocks hocking car deals, coaches shows and playbacks.
