"A highly-placed official from a Big 12 school confirmed Friday that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will join the Pac-10 Conference once formal offers are made to them, but said that Texas A&M officials remain on the fence between joining the Pac-10 or the SEC.
“The decision has been made,” the official told the American-Statesman. “We’re bringing everybody to the Pac-10 but A&M.”
The official said the Aggies have a 72-hour timetable to decide whether to accept the Pac-10’s offer. The official also said those formal offers could be made over the weekend.
The Texas board of regents have called an 11 a.m. meeting next Tuesday, and a formal announcement is expected later that day. Regents at Texas Tech also will meet on Tuesday, at 2 p.m.
The official, who has knowledge of Thursday’s meeting in Austin between Texas and Texas A&M officials, said the Aggies are torn about which direction to take. When asked to confirm rumors that A&M president R. Bowen Loftin wants to explore joining the SEC but that Aggies athletic director Bill Byrne wants to go the Pac-10, the official said, “I think you’re 100 percent right.”

These f'n guys...

If they want to go and be an absolute doormat for the SEC, let them go. That gives the PAC room to find another team (congrats, Baylor, you're not left for dead).

I would not be surprised if the Pac 10 has them on the clock, and just waiting for aTm to drop the ball so an invite can be extended to Utah or Kansas.

Personally, I just think they're having a little public temper tantrum to prove to the world they're not tied to Texas. After they hold their breath until they turn blue and pass out, they'll join the Pac10, just like they're supposed to.

aTm has been notified that if they bolt for the SEC, OU/OSU/TX/TTech will boycott scheduling them solely for business reasons. The idea is to not give them any added relevence in the State of Texas recruiting wise and to freeze them out.

A LOT of aTm alums want to go the SEC in spite of that, solely on the basis of getting out from under the influence of Big Brother UT. Seems like a dumb reason to make a decision, but them are the Aggies.

I personally think they will get relegated to has been status for years to come in the SEC. They seem to think the move will make them great in the future. I guess time will tell if they are dumb enough to try it.

Let the revival of Aggie jokes start

It would be hilarious if the Pac 10 rescinded A&M's invite and gave it to Baylor.

I keep hearing that if aTm dosen't choose the Pac by a certain deadline, then they won't get the invite and it will go to KU or Utah. I'm hoping the dead dog lovers screw it up,and we can bring ol KU along with us myself. That said, even they can't be that stupid, and I look for them to go ahead and be packin for the pac with the rest of us.
