And it's not with a reward posted for me by Crimestoppers!
I was interviewed yesterday by Maggie DeCarlo (Channel 5) about a program I started at the JDette's school designed to get fathers/stepfathers/uncles/grandfathers/etc. to volunteer in the schools. As a result of it, we've had at least one father volunteer to spend the whole day at the school helping out pretty much every single day since we started.
She said it would air Monday on the five o'clock news.

Congratulations! I'll try to remember to record it. If you want a DVD copy of it, I'll have it, if I remember. haha

Glad you had time to stop by tonight, Jimmy. I know you're a lot busier nowadays. How's it going?

It's Ridgeview Elementary in OKC Public Schools.
The program is a national program. It's called WatchDOGS (Dads of Great Students). It sound like it's a chapter of the same program.

Going good. Busy as hell, I must say.
Me and the JDettes are taking tae kwon do lessons, and I'm also taking some kickboxing and MMA classes. It is kicking my ass after 6 or 7 years of near completely sedentary life, but it is hella-fun. The girls are loving it. As a cop, you'll appreciate this....they're presently learning an arm-bar take down to the ground that is STRAIGHT out of rookie level custody and control techniques. I'm learning baton techniques that police officers aren't allowed to use anymore....now they have to carry around a REALLY big maglite (j/k).
We're just doing the deal.....counting the days. Theresa is coming home for 4 days over easter. We're going out there once or twice this summer. We're gonna do Christmas in NYC. It's all good. Having her in the CONTUS is definitely a help. If she gets a 4-5 day pass, she can fly home.

The class with the girls sounds like a blast!!! And I think it is wonderful you started that program at the girls school. You are a wonderful dad.

Yeah, they are loving the karate classes. I really enjoy them too. Everything I've done in the past has involved much more grappling than striking so this is new for me too.
Thanks for the kind words.

The arm bar remains my favorite clutch move! Charlie Brown still at the academy?
My wife was gone with her brother and sisters for 10 days. That was one of the most rewarding things I've ever experienced (no, not because my wife was gone!). Spending all that time with the kids was great! It was a lot of work and I went to bed very tired every night, but it was worth it!
But doing it for months on end is unimagineable to me!
Looks like you've got the right mind set. You're going to look back on this as the years go by as one of the highlights of your life. But you already know that, don't you?

Someone in the city should record it and post it on YouTube for all of us to enjoy!
Very nice JD. My mom was very involved at my elemetry school (which is why my family was close to Barryrules' mom) at the time I thought it was 'uncool' to have my mom at the school so much. But looking back I can see how much she did for the school and helped the teachers, whiched helped me and my classmates.

Yeah, I do. I jokingly say it's a pain in the ass to have to do everything myself, but at least I get to do it MY WAY! Sometimes, I'm not big on compromise....LOL.

I agree completely about it being a pain in the ass. It is! But it's the most REWARDING pain in the ass that will ever happen to a person!
Hey, is Riley Lennox still around OCPD (I think that's his name)? If you know who that is, I'll send you a DVD that will crack you up. It's from the 80's.

Yep, that's true.
So far, I've only had one complete meltdown. It was Cox cable that felt my wrath :furious3: instead of the girls so I was completely okay with the whole incident.

Don't take it out on them! Ive been on the receiving end of rants like that when I worked for sprint. By the end of the call I am sitting there thinking, " what the hell what that about?!"

I was a WatchDOG at my daughter's school the other day. Probably about 3 weeks ago. It was a blast! I'm scheduled to do it again in May.
Helped a little LD guy with some sight words and a Star Wars story. Did math flash cards with 5 little girls. Drilled several 5th graders on questions about various explorers. Did multiplication bingo with some others. Counted fake money with a group, and helped a guy with some kind of math assignment. Visited a lot with a little bitty 2nd grade girl who lives with her grandparents. Spent the whole lunchtime in the cafeteria just talking to the kids.
Two 4th grade guys wearing the exact same Tony Romo replica jerseys, sitting a couple tables apart at lunch. So I went over to one and asked him if he was the real Tony Romo, cause I had heard the other guy was. He was a little shy but his buddies were all "oh yeah he's the real Romo!" So I said well, then here's how I'll know - are you dating Jessica Simpson? Which made him and his buddies crack up and then some more "oh yeah". Then, I went over to the other Tony Romo kid and went thru the same stuff. It was great.

No, they were the cause and fault of my rant and the rant was absolutely righteous and justified. Besides, it really wasn't much of a rant. It was more a "maybe you should be trying to convince me not to cancel my account and go to DishTV at this point because that's where I'm headed". When their "retention representative" told me he didn't really care one way or the other, it was an easy decision on what to do next.

Good job counselor.
I've got a friend that has twin 4 yo girls. Very busy young ladies. His wife has pretty much been home since they wee born, but has recently taken a job traveling for a week a month. The first week she was gone he called me on a Wednesday and said, "if I hear 'That's not how mommy does it' one more time I think my head is gonna explode". I still laugh about it when I think about them saying that.

Haha,
Not making fun....I love your non-conforming style! You became a lawyer, but didn't let the lawyer become you...you know? Now if you have a double breasted suit on in this interview, I WILL make fun of you!:vomit-smiley-001:

Just to clarify the grappling and striking is for the karate class, not the watchdogs?

Sounds like a cool thing u are working on. Parental involvement is a key, if not the key in a childs development and education.
Kudos 2 ye!!!!!

LOL....t-shirt and jeans for the interview.
I never wear double breasted suits. I'm too wide for that. I usually go for a nice 3 or 4 button. I actually hate wearing a suit and tie. I got in to a really odd profession for someone with my sartorial tastes.
