Not looking good for Wrestling title

Iowa alread has a large lead and this morning hasn't been kind.

At 125, Iowa guy won in Champ bracket to semis; OSU's Notte was 0-2.
At 133, Oliver and Iowa guy both won to advance to semis.
At 141, Parks and Iowa guy both won to advance to semis vs each other.
At 149, Iowa guy won into semis we had no one.
At 157, Iowa guy beat Erisman in wrestlebacks.
At 165, Iowa guy beat Meade yesterday and Meade lost in wbs.
At 174, Iowa guy and Benefiel both wrestle in quarters this morning.
At 184, Foster and Iowa guy both wrestle in quarters today.
At 197, Gelogaev and Iowa guy both in wbs.
At HWT, Jake and Iowa guy both still alive.

As far as I can see all 10 Iowa guys still wrestling and we only have 5 of 9 still alive.

At 165, Iowa guy lost but still alive in wbs.
At 184, Iowa guy losy still alive in wbs.
At 174, Iowa guy won and Benefiel lost.

Yeah, Iowa winning the title this sure was all but assured before it even started. They are just stacked with seniors with their 2 schools worth of wrestlers. They are going to have a major dropoff next year, and we'll be stacked to make an immediate run at national championships again for the next 3-4 years.

It was a sad morning. Went 2-3 in quarterfinals and only Z won in consolations.

Z has another match this morning, and if he wins, him, Parks, Benefiel, and Foster will need to win their first match of the evening to earn AA status.

At this point Iowas basically has first locked up and Cornell is pretty set in second. We have a real shot at third though...

Wow I wonder when is last time someone from B12 or B10 has been that high (Cornell)?

We are not doing well at all in the wrestlebacks. It seems that our wrestlers are just not ready or do not have the desire to wrestle on the national level. I had high hopes for this year after the Big XII tournament but other than Rosholt we just haven't wrestled well. Is it just coincidental that ever since Pat Smith was let go, our wrestling program has gone the wrong way? I love John but am beginning to wonder if we will ever be back to the level we were when Pat was an assistant. It seems that our wrestling program motto is becoming the same as some of our other sports have been in the past "just wait til next year".

Biggest issue is highschool wrestling. In the upper midwest, northeast and west coast it is simply stronger than Oklahoma area. When we dominated, our highschool wrestlers were as good as anybody. Smith just hasn't been able to recruit nationally as well. But we seem to be pretty loaded for next year. Seems it is simply more cyclical than before
