My barn cat got knocked up and since she appeared to be ready to go any day and it was going to get down into the teens last night we opted to bring her in the house and lock her in the bathroom - just in case. I checked her ths morning after eating breakfast and there were no kittens. Since it was still cold out and I had to get a dog to the vet I left her in there. Came home from the vet, went back to check on her and sure enough she was giving birth!! And guess what color the first kitten was???

:pete:ORANGE!!!!:pete:

Husband just checked on her again and kitten number 2 is also orange!!!

I know, I know - I wanted to have her fixed, but hubby said barn cats don't live long so we should let her have kittens. Thus we are now having kittens. Needless to say momma cat is getting fixed after this and the kittens we keep will get fixed.

And we are now up to 7 - 3 orange and 4 grey. So does anyone want a grey kitten???

No three colored cats? When I was growing up on the farm, an old couple lived a few miles down the road from us. They never had electricity, and still had kerosene lamps, and an outhouse to boot. Anyways, she had lots of barn cats, but only three colored cats. When a cat would have a litter, she would take all the one and two colored ones, and put them in a gunny sack and weigh it down and toss it in the pond.
The three colored cats were better mousers she said.

Just a cute story from my childhood.

Someone should have put her sorry butt in a gunny sack with weights and thrown her in the pond.

We have three indoor cats. They are all frustrated predators. If a spider is up on the wall, they will watch it for hours untill it makes a mistake and gets down to about 5' off the floor within their jumping range. Then it quickly becomes history.

Should a fly get in the house and fly around, the hunt is on. They will all three look for it and do numerous jumps and swats in the air to try and catch it. They don't have an oposable thumb, but they can catch it in a single paw by cupping the paw and catch it between the paw pads. They are not OSU football fans but will watch the bird feeders just outside the windows with fan like enthusium.

I'm sure they would be great mousers. Only one is a tri-color cat.
