Former OSU/NFL Tight End Joins Yard Dawgz
03/03/08 - arenafootball2 (af2) Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz have been assigned a former NFL and Oklahoma State tight end, Alonzo Mayes, by the arenafootball2 league office.

Mayes (6'5, 280) was an All-American tight end at Oklahoma State University and provided a large target for OSU quarterbacks during his stint in Stillwater. Mayes, who was with the Pokes from 1994-1997, hauled in 92 passes in his career, seventh on the OSU all-time receptions chart. During his 1997 All-American season, the two-time All-Big 12 selection caught 29 passes for 424 yards and helped lead the Cowboys to their first bowl game since 1988.

Mayes was selected in the fourth round by the Chicago Bears in the 1998 NFL draft. He was traded to the Miami Dolphins where he played two seasons (2001-2002). With the Yard Dawgz, Mayes is expected to be a part of an athletic offensive/defensive line.

The Dawgz have also been assigned FB/LB Robert Harmon. Harmon (6'2, 270) played at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and is a graduate of Guthrie High School where he played football, basketball, and soccer.

I wonder why? Could he still be thinking of a football career? Maybe he just wants to play for the heck of it.

ah hah great balls of fire . its nice to be remembered . its ok Boss I still have Jeromy Shockey and Rnady Mcmichael and hopefully Brandon (the rebel ) Pettigrew to promote.

by the way when is Holder going to come to his senses and rename the stadium to Alonzo Mayes Stadium ?

after all Alonzo is one of the three wisemen of football.

joining him is Shannon Sharpe ( the voice of reason)
Randy Mcmichael ( the randyman)

Well since I attend almost all of the yard dawgz games, having only missed two since they came here, I am always happy to have fellow pokes back. At last report,Joe Phears was also on the roster. While the Tulsa Talons are the cream of the crop in AF2,the dawgz are actually very entertaining, and should be decent as well this year. The tickets are cheap, and it's just a fun way for a night out of the house, and a lil football till the pokes start again. Give em a chance this year if you haven't,and since they sign autographs after evry game, you can stop and say hi to Alonzo,Sam,and Joe.

Thank you for the nod and fingers crossed that God will bless me one more time! I miss the game and will forever love the feeling of stepping on the field no matter at what level it is...
