NORMAN, Okla. — A University of Oklahoma student who was arrested on a complaint of driving under the influence of alcohol has withdrawn his candidacy for a state House of Representatives seat.
Twenty-year-old Matthew Hecox cited personal reasons when he announced earlier this week that he would no longer be a candidate in the District 44 race.
The OU senior was arrested Dec. 31 near Campus Corner and was charged with a misdemeanor DUI.
He was vying for the seat being vacated by Rep. Bill Nations, D-Norman, who can't seek re-election because of term limits.

Why did he drop out? Couldn't they have just handled it internally?
