For those who care, by the first week in March I will spray Roundup on my yard to kill all the cool season weeds(dandelions, etc.) and grasses(fescue, wheat, wild onions, etc.) and apply a preemergent. If I don't get it done by the first week in March I will change to a weed killer. That should keep me from mowing until about the first of May. I think they have banned MSMA for use as a grass killer this year. Does anybody know of anything else that can be used to kill grasses and sand burrs? I plan to put down some fertilize as well around the middle of March. Generally, the first time each year I put down fertilize, I use a 20-5-10 mixture even though nitrogen would probably be fine.
Last year I rototilled a garden area and fought bermuda grass from July on. I have turned the soil over already this winter to try to get a good freeze and hopefully, kill most of the bermuda grass. Does anybody have a good way to get rid of bermuda grass? I also sprayed Roundup on the area last fall.
What do you use? What's your schedule?

This past year, we moved to a new (to us) house. So I went from an all-fescue lawn to an all-bermuda lawn. I do love bermuda because you can mistreat it, to an extent, and it still won't die. Give it a little TLC and it's easy to make it look good. On the other hand, I hate that it works its way into flowerbeds, sidewalks, etc.
Anyway, it sounds like you do about what I do. I've been getting out and pulling the easy weeds and using round up on the rest, while the bermuda is still dormant. In early March (maybe even late Feb), I'll scalp the lawn down and will possibly use a dethatcher as well. When I was in the fescue world, I was pretty happy using Amaze for a pre-emergence herbicide. I'll probably end up using it on my bermuda lawn. What do you usually use? Had good luck with it?
Oh man, getting rid of bermuda is a true hassle. I talked to LandscapePoke about this. I believe his main way was to roundup and pull all the roots you can. Then do it again when they appear again (and they will). And so on and so on.

Front is all fescue, back is fescue/bermuda (50ish/ea). I'll hit the front and back w/34-0-0 in March and all the beds/landscaping with Osmocote. I've had some bermuda problems in front; sadly, digging the crap out seems to be the best way. Otherwise, since I live with a trained Linnaeus Garden volunteer, I'll do what I'm told.

I bought some stuff from Lesco last year called PRE-M. It works ok but it stains everything yellow including walks and driveways.
I had a fescue yard for years and loved it but it got so hot around here I couldn't keep it green in July and August so I converted back to bermuda grass. The last few years would have been great for fescue. There just isn't a prettier yard than fescue when it is green. It does require a lot of work in Oklahoma, tho, especially in the direct sun.

Yep on the water and I planted mine when we were having global warming.:stupe: Now that we are into climate change, it would probably be a little easier.;)
I put in a swimming pool at my wife's request last summer and we couldn't swim after August. :furious3:
The weather gods are just waiting for me to do something so they can punish me.:music-smiley-019:

We hired Landscape Poke's company this year.
I'm tired of messing with weeds.
