"So when a guy like Calvin Barnett sends out a tease alert by promising “something different and a little flashy” a week before signing day, you can count on some silliness.
And some shenanigans.
But beyond the silliness, there’s something less than genuine involved. In Barnett’s case, there was deception and, according to OSU insiders, lies.
What we’ve heard:
Cowboys coaches were told for 10 straight days leading to Wednesday’s signing that Barnett and his mother told OSU coaches he would be a Cowboy.
Left to rely on his word, OSU couldn’t seek a replacement for his vacated spot in the signing class. And some young man who wanted to be Cowboy could not."

he is 18 years old, no need to talk trash about his mom. If you feel so strongly, find out where she lives, and say that to her face.

Lew...let me guess, it wouldn't concern you in the least if a son of yours did this kind of childish thing to decent people that wanted to help him and took him at his word that things were FINE...and then turn it into a circus act at the expense of the University/institution and many nice coaches?? WAY!!! Yep you'd feel awful and so would we if our kid pulled such a trick. The kid sure wasn't raise to do the RIGHT THING is all I'm saying. Thus mom/family share some of the blame for this fiasco. Goodbye and good luck Calvin and I do hope you grow up and have kids that are more mature and man up as humans of their word and deeds.

Sorry Lewis but I big time disagree with ya on how this kid handled this (and not just because it was OUR POKES that got gored.:ousucksnana: as does Arky...

I would expect anyone to stand by their word by age 15; clearly 18 is "drafting age", and you know darn well the military would not tolerate anything like that from any person, 18 years old or not.

It was a crass act and reflects on his upbringing, plain and simple.

Actually, not having stand by recruits is a little naive of our recruiters. Shifting blame for not having those stand bys available is as immature as the kid changing his mind. Having raised three kids and knowing that, as they graduate from HS and go to college, they are seeking a little autonomy lets Mom out of the equation as far as I'm concerned. Certainly he and his buddy cooked this thing up earlier and wanted to shock and awe the fans which just indicates that many kids at that age consider themselves the center of everyone's universe rather than just theirs. This is not the first time something like this has happened and will certainly not be the last. Ease up a little. :music-smiley-019:

Come on Tokyo...you know the kid knew the shock value and what it would say to the OSU coaches, program...and that starts and ends with Family/mom, etc... That's all Cali and I are saying. The kid , at least for now, is a PUNK!

a "stand by" recruit? What the heck is that?

Hey kid, we want you to hold off signing that LOI that you got, just in case one of our guys accidently doesn't sign with us.

Is that it? The punk waited until 11:00 on SIGNING DAY... every other kid with an offer had already signed.

What the heck is a "stand by" recruit under those conditions?

You were kidding, right?

JBug, ticks me off too but he just a typical narcissistic kid wanting to make an impression. Just got to let it go. For the other poster, I'm surprised that you are not aware that many teams/coaching staffs have a few waiting in the wings in case one or two change their minds. Nothing wrong with it if the kid knows he is a second choice. Who was it...Ole Miss (?) that had about 37 kids waiting on scholarships last year or the year before? I know we got a teat in the wringer over the Qback that ended up at Nebraska but that was handled a little badly at the time.

How so? The Spano kid didn't get his offer pulled, it just wasn't available for a Spring enrollment. He & his daddy made a big stink over it...but we got the one we wanted into school early - Markelle Martin I believe - and for all the noise the Spano kid & his daddy made, who is buried on the depth chart and who is an impact player...?

I fail to see how this was handled badly by anyone except Spano & Daddy Spano.

Tokyo??? SORRY to TICK you off. But if CC and I are allowed to 'think'...well we think the family and kid IN THIS CASE are punks. This is not because they did it to OSU , so to speak, it is because he ( and the family knew about it, or at least the mom punk did) did it at all ( to any U and coaches). Accept your sholly you want, man up and call the disappointed coaches, have a media announcement if you wish and let the world know you changed your mine, etc, etc. That is the NON punk way of handling such an event.

But we'll bow to YOUR oh GET over it ways T and let the kid and family get on with being punks forever.:ousucksnana: as does Arky!

Zac Robinson has a change of Heart
Talented Qb reverses decision and commits to OSU

Hope you're right Jake...but above is how class handles such situations and I think Tokyo well knows that...he just thinks, I think, that CC and I and others, are mad or continuing the tread because it happened to osu...NOT the point. But thanks for the input!
