OK, I just wanted to throw this out there for discussion. As a preface though, I cannot be persuaded to any options other than those I list below, I have put alot of time and thought into these options - so this is not a discussion about who I shoudl vote for across the board....
1. Vote for Huckabee. I can't vote for McCain when it's a primary. I don't think he is the right candidate for my party. Huckabee is closer but not perfect and Ron Paul is more than unacceptable because of his foreign policy views. I will support McCain in the general election without a doubt though.
2. Cross party lines and vote for Hillary. Texas is an open primary state and I can do this. The longer the Democrats fight amongst themselves the better things are for the GOP so I am really considering casting an obviously tactical vote. My two concerns are this: 1- it could backfire on me (unlikely) and she could become Prez in less than a year (cold shivers down my spine...) 2- I take voting very seriously and I don't know if I am comfortable casting a vote for someone I really do not want to hold the office.
3. Don't vote. It's not really an option for me, but I guess I should list it...
So what do you think I should do?

If those are the only three options, I would rank them (in order of importance) 3, 2, 1 :)

In my opinion, you should never cast a "tactical" vote. If you really don't want Hillary to be president, then by no means go out and VOTE for her. You have no idea what is going to happen. I don't think your "unlikely" comment is as far-fetched as you think. Also, by voting in the Democratic primary, you lose the right to vote in any Republican runoffs, if there are any. And one other thing: If you're truly a Republican, don't you have other Republican races (state rep, state senator, US Rep, etc.) to vote for?

To your last question yes, and that is another downside that I have not thought about. In my district there are not that many primaries down the ticket that should be close. From my POV my county and city are really Republican-machine run and primaries usually are not close affairs (broad generalization). Very good points though... I will have to take those into consideration.

I rarely vote for a Democrat at the national level, but I voted for Obama today, and I will in November if he's still in it. I can just not vote for Hillary, and I'm afraid someone will show McCain the Queen of Diamonds and he'll start pushing buttons. Just kidding about the buttons of course but John McCain just doesn't have the temperament (IMO) for the presidency. There's just no way that Dr. Paul has a chance in a billion, so why not Obama? If McCain's elected President he'll just continue the trend the USA's foreign policy has followed for the last generation, which is to have none. All the candidates talk about gas prices and creating new jobs, but come on... there's nothing a president can do to solve either of those things. Yeah Obama's riding in on his cult of personality, (That was a great song BTW) but why not someone new? Can he really do any worse than we've had? I'm just sick of the entire Clinton family and John McCain and I'm ready for all of them to just fade away.

I ended up voting for Huckabee, but I am pleased with McCain in the end.
Also, I just don't think I could have said the word "Democrat" when asked how I was voting at my precinct... :P
