Oklahoma State freshman James Anderson has scored a total of 51 points in two games at Gallagher-Iba Arena this season, including 22 in a Saturday blowout of Washington.
"James just has a knack for scoring," Terrel Harris said. "Anybody who averaged 40 points in high school. . . 40 points is 40 points."
Rookie crop: College basketball has a surplus of prize freshmen. Washington's Lorenzo Romar said Anderson -- the Big 12's third-leading scorer -- has gone unnoticed.
Said the coach, "As we watched him play in the other games, I thought 'wow, that's a good freshman who is pretty well rounded.' And then I watched him when he came out tonight and, after he took his sweat top off, he didn't look like a freshman physically. Then when the game began, he didn't play like a freshman. I was real impressed with him, but I was impressed before we came out here and played."
Big time: OSU played a fourth straight nonconference game against an opponent from a BCS conference. The last time the Cowboys played four consecutive nonleague games against teams that are from current BCS conferences was the 1974-75 season.
Reunion time:
Approximately 65 former Oklahoma A&M and OSU players who played for Henry Iba were in attendance at the game.
Rookie update: OSU freshman post player Martavius Adams made his first career start. Freshman guard Nick Sidorakis scored a career-best seven points and dished a team-best and career-high five assists.
Stat highlights: OSU made a season-high 11 3-pointers and committed a season-low 11 turnovers. OSU also had a season-high eight blocks.
Divide and conquer: OSU coach Sean Sutton advised players to concentrate on five-minute segments of the game. The Cowboys took themselves out of contention in recent games by getting outscored in the last five minutes of the first half and the first five minutes of the second half.
The opposite occurred against Washington. "The last five minutes of the first half, we just really turned it on and tried to take the game to 20 points and try to crush them, just try to take it to 30 actually," Harris said.
Notably absent: Washington guard Ryan Appleby, who set a school single-season record for 3-pointers last season, has yet to play in a game this year due to a thumb injury.
