View Full Version : Dear sweet lord, Perrish Cox is out for the game
According to the TW, he broke curfew twice this week, and Gundy told him he won't play.
What next?????????????

What a tough year this has been, and yet we're 9-3.
I hope the D shakes the news off and plays lights out tomorrow.

Is it too much to ask that they just obey the rules? Good grief

How very disappointing.
I don't think this is a good decision on Gundy's part. Gundy is a stubborn man, we already know, but this doesn't seem like an appropriate time for him to display his stubbornness.
Suspend Perrish for a quarter, if you think he needs to be suspended. But not for the entire last game of his senior year for a curfew violation. That's just too harsh. (In my humble opinion.)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Why is it always our best player? Can't one of the 3rd stringers get in trouble or injured? Well, I guess it is just par for the course this year.

Rules are rules, right?
Same rules apply for starters as they do for walk ons.
How do we find a way to blame Gundy for this?
As much as I hate it, Perrish made the mistake, he hurt the team. He knew the rules so it falls on his shoulders.
Sounds like Perrish was the stubborn one, not wanting to follow rules.
If a coach wants to keep the respect of the team, he has to treat every player the same.

What bothers me about this is that he busted curfew TWICE in the week.
If Gundy told him after the first violation that he was going to be suspended if it happened again, and then it happened again, Gundy has got to follow through.
Just ridiculous, Perrish. Ridiculous.

I think that my remarks do not in any way blame Gundy for Perrish's tardiness. My remarks indicate that Gundy's punishment is too harsh. And I think it is.

Violating curfew once, yeah I probably agree with you (and Gundy may well have simply sat Cox out for part of the game, we'll never know). But to do it TWICE, that is inexcusable, especially for a senior "leader". This is all on Cox. Harsh punishment, yes. Unfair, no.

This is on Perrish for being a knucklehead.
I do think the whole game is harsh, but I can respect the line has been drawn

As HC, Gundy needs to do what he has to do. Can't blame him for that. Perrish let the team down. He owe the team and the school an apology for his actions. I support Gundy on this.

I don't think we're piling onto you. We're pissed at Perrish.

apparently on his facebook page he says he was late because new year's traffic was really heavy....
sounds like he was trying to make it.

Should have never put himself in that position in the first place, especially if this was the second time. If you give someone an inch, they'll take a mile. Cox tried it and he's paying for it. Hate it for the team but Gundy was right.

I'm sure he was trying to make it. However, I think, when it's the second time during the week, he loses the benefit of the doubt. After the first time, Perish should have left absolutely no chance of being late again. I'm disappointed that Perish put Gundy in the position of having to take action.

That really stinks. On one hand, I'm glad that Gundy is consistent about punishment. But on the other hand, by punishing Perrish this way, he's in effect punishing the whole team. Since Perrish is a senior, Gundy can't say to him, "you've got to prove yourself to me before you're a starter again" or some such thing. Tough call. Not a good way to end one's career.

I agree that this is a tough call. Apparently Parrish was 30 minutes late the second time. I believe that making him set for a quarter or maybe the first half would have gotten the point across and I also agree that his suspension is punishing the entire team. Parrish is finished and does not return but the majority of the team comes back next year and should not be punished.
I also get the feeling, based on the decisions that were made for the uo game and then this game that maybe Gundy does not want to win. Hope that I am wrong.
Are we missing Cox now or what? He's the only one fast enough to deal with McCluster.
I agree. Gundy doesn't want to win.

I feel very strongly that the "line in the sand" was drawn when P. Cox was late the first time. Gundy had to back his threat or he would never be in control of a similar situation again. Yes, the punishment was harsh--but it was the 2nd offense. I have nothing against P. Cox--he was a great player for OSU and very thrilling to watch--BUT life is full of all kind of rules and he will always know his decision of not making curfew on time could have been instrumental in the way the team played. Apparantly all other team members etc. made bed check on time.

Cox has been in this program for 4 years. He is a Senior leader, and an AA defensive back.
Two nights before his last game as a Cowboy. His last game with his teammates, and he's out partying without a single one of them in tow???
WTF was he up to, and who was he doing it with?
eidt- and please let me add. I don't think you send a 4 year starter, AA defensive back, special teams super star, home before a bowl game for missing curfew. You can say the rules are the same for everyone, but the truth is they aren't. Stars get away with things others don't. Like playing when you shouldn't be playing because of injury.

I've heard from many people that he only missed curfew once by 30 minutes on New Year's Eve and that was due to being stuck in traffic. Come people, he's just a few miles from Waco, where his friends and family are. We don't know what he was doing so who are we to judge. For all we know he could've been visiting his child, which he's left and done that before if you don't remember.
I have to agree with you Jakeman, there ARE different rules for different people. If you want leniency make yourself better, like Perrish did!!!!
I saw Perrish at the game, he was with T.J. Bell and some younger guys, looked to be recruits. How smart was that, we basically kick P. Cox off the team right before he goes to the draft and he's still in contact with a bunch of young and talented future college players. You think he's praises O-State right now after what our coaches did to him????

Seemed a little like getting the death penalty for parking in a no parking zone.
I'm all for standing by your word and doling out punishment for those that don't follow rules, but it seems like a pretty harsh penalty for what sounds like a pretty minor infraction.
I would have sat him for a quarter, then sent him out on the field to try and atone for his indescretion with sweat and effort.

This is what should have happened. Anything more than this is basically what the NCAA did to us for Dez!!!!!

I heard some really sad news regarding why Perrish Cox didn't play. I'm not sure I even want to post it as I have no way to verify whether it's true or not. But if it is, Gundy was well within his rights to do what he did :(
Wow. Way to leave us hanging!
