RPI / Team / W-L

4 - Texas……… 24-4
9 - Kansas……. 24-3
27 - Oklahoma.. 18-9
33 - Baylor…….. 17-8
43 - Kansas St….. 18-9
46 - Texas A&M.. 20-7
61 - Texas Tech .. 15-11
75 - Okla St…… 15-12
97 - Missouri….. 15-13
105 - Nebraska….. 16-9
140 - Iowa State…. 14-13
161 - Colorado…. 10-16

* Above rankings per www.collegerpi.com

* Teams in Bold are currently projected by that site as NCAA Tourney teams.

* Texas A&M is a team to keep an eye on. They could very well play themselves out of the NCAA's over the balance of the season. Remaining games are vs Tech, @OU, @Baylor, vs KU. Losing three of those four games could see them stumbling into the NCAA selection as a team on a cold streak with a plumeting RPI.

* Our Pokes continue to be perhaps the hottest team in the league right now. With the win last night, our RPI has jumped up to a respectable #75. Pokes should at this point likely finish 2-1 in regular season.

* With that kind of finish, OSU should work their way up in the Big-12 Tourney seeding to maybe 5th. That would create an easily winnable 1st round game and set-up perhaps a Bedlam rubber match in the quarter-finals. I could see the Big-12 seeding out as follows:

#8 Texas A&M vs #9 Texas Tech winner vs #1 Texas.
#7 Nebraska vs #10 Missouri winner vs #2 Kansas.
#6 Baylor vs #11 Iowa State winner vs #3 Kansas State.
#5 Oklahoma State vs #12 Colorado winner vs #4 Oklahoma.

* So if the Pokes finish 2-1 with a 1-1 performance in the Big-12 Tourney, then we could finish with an overall record of 18-14, an RPI in the 60's which would be good enough to put us squarely in the NIT along with probably Texas Tech.

* I still think it is a stretch for the Pokes to get serious NCAA consideration short of winning the Big-12 Tourney.

I'm not sure how you derrive the seedings of 4-8.

1-3 are fairly solid: UT and KU don't lose and KS loses @ KU.

- If OSU goes 2-1 as you say, I can only assume you mean we beat uo and lose @ UT; 8-8
- This means uo lost to us. They also should beat Mizzou at home and lose @ Neb (if Neb is a higher seed as you have than atm). This puts them at 8-8 if they beat atm at home.
- BU should win @ CU, Mizzou and atm at home, lose @ ttek. This makes them 9-7.
- atm should go 1-3 (lose @ BU, @ uo, KU home) to be 7-9.

Therefore it would be #4 BU, #5 uo, #6 OSU (uo has better divisional record).

If atm beats BU to make them all 8-8, then via the round-robin method used uo on BU had the only sweeps among the 4 so uo #4. Them the break would be highest team beaten and atm beat UT once so they are #5, then OSU beat KU so they are #6 and BU #7.

Regardless, I see NO way that atm gets into the NCAA at this point. It seems NCAA takes 4, BU is NOT getting in at 8-8; they will if they go 9-7 I think, but then again that makes them the #4 seed as I have shown. uo does NOT get into the NCAA at 8-8.

I see BU at 9-7 getting in as the 4th team and OSU, atm, ttek and uo all go NIT while Neb goes to that new CBI.

I have:

Big 12 Standings

1. Texas (14 - 2)
2. Kansas (13 - 3)
3. Kansas State (10 - 6)
4. Oklahoma (8 - 8) Defeated Baylor and Oklahoma State based on round-robin record.
5. Oklahoma State (8 - 8) With Baylor, lost to Oklahoma based on round-robin record. Defeated Baylor based on record against #2 South Division teams.
6. Baylor (8 - 8) With Oklahoma State, lost to Oklahoma based on round-robin record. Lost to Oklahoma State based on record against #2 South Division teams.
7. Nebraska (7 - 9) Defeated Texas A&M based on head-to-head record.
8. Texas A&M (7 - 9) Defeated Texas Tech based on South Division record. Lost to Nebraska based on head-to-head record.
9. Texas Tech (7 - 9) Lost to Texas A&M based on South Division record.
10. Missouri (6 - 10)
11. Iowa State (5 - 11)
12. Colorado (4 - 12)

For the above to play out, CU would need to defeat Baylor this week. If that does not happen (which it very well might not), then Baylor bumps up to the 4-seed and moves OU and us down.

You think uo gets in as 4th seed with 8-8 record?

I think I looked at this last year, and no Big-12 8-8 team has ever gotten an at-large bid for the NCAA.

This year, I think that might change. Reasons:

* I think there is a lot of "parity" at the level just under Texas/Kansas.
* We've never had an 8-8 League team have a sub-50 RPI before. This year I think we'll see that, and maybe several times.
* The Big-12 is the #2 rated RPI Conference this year. In years when the Big-12 has been a Top-3 league, we've ALWAYS gotten at least six teams in the Dance. I don't see how you can take six league teams this year without OU being one of those. I think TX/KU/KSU/OU are locks. Baylor is a near lock. I think A&M is on the bubble. That said, nobody under 8-8 will have a chance. But if we have six teams at 8-8 who have sub-50 RPI's, they'll all go to the NCAA's. Right now we have that.

In years past I remember that the "talking heads" on Selection Sunday always spoke of how a team had "come on" or "finished" the season. Teams with multiple losses down the stretch but ample wins to qualify often did not make it to the big dance.

Now I am not into evaluating the W-L records or RPI's or such like you guys, but I believe that if we finish strong (maybe only losing to Texas, but it would have to be close) and then if we go deep into the Big 12 tourny (finals maybe?) I believe we would be invited.

Q: If Bob is taller than Jim, and Jim is in love with Suzy, but Suzy has a crush on George, and George has a 36 inch waste and a body mass index of 155, yet George's girlfriend Marge (who is a very large girl) is secretly a lesbian and has a crush on Suzy, and Marge is Bob's sister, but Bob doesn't know she is his sister, then who goes to the prom?

Also, in the history of the B12, there have been very few 8-8 teams that finished higher than 7th in the conference.

Now that is an attempted hijacking!!! Very cool though. So who went to the prom? Nobody? ;)

That's not very kind! I was in love with Suzy in '64-5, but I was four years older, and Daddy didn't like me. I heard the call in '66 (after a 0.6 GPA back when we had a draft), went off to save NAS Norfolk from the Viet Cong. Came back, "dated" Suzy a couple of times, figured out how much fun I was having as a "mature" veteran, whoa, she married George later on. As Bob Hope said it so well, "thanks for the memories".
