Anyone going to see it and are you seeing the 3-D version or the 3-D IMAX?

I'm not even the slightest bit intrigued by this movie.
Looks like a cartoon.

None of the trailers even hint as to what the plot of the movie is.
I guess the CGI is supposed to make me want to go see it??

Not knocking it because I don't have a clue what it is about.
Just saying, I will rent it on DVD.

I can give you the condensed version of the movie. It's a very simple plot.

This is what I have got from watching a few trailers. Humans go to this planet because it has some mineral that they need/want. Then they go to war with the natives on the planet, when they can't beat them by brute force they use handicap soldiers to control 'avatars' to infiltrate their ranks. And from the previews it seems as though one of these soldiers falls for one of the natives, blah blah blah.

It looks like a expensive CGI movie, with a pretty bland story line.

Anyone disagree with my guess on what the movie is about?

That would be pretty much my summary of the movie except you forgot the happy ending. Still, I'm going for the cgi affects. Can't wait!

Basically it's Dances with Wolves only with aliens..I've heard the trailers don't do it justice. It's supposed to be amazing. James Cameron has earned the benefit of the doubt in my book. Roger Ebert gave it 4 Stars.

Dances With Alien Wolves?

Make em Werewolves & throw in some vampires and it would break all box off records!

They'd have to be gay vampires. Bella Lugosi couldn't earn a dime these days.

Sounds like a few people are getting sick from the 3-D effects.

Avatar sickness? (http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=9371074)

Cisco took our network team to see this this morning. The one guy that came to work after said he didn't really like it. Said the CGI looked good, but the story blew.

I've heard "Dances With Smurfs" sums it up.

We're going to see it on the new IMAX screen at Quail Springs mall. Good grief. I'm going to a mall the Saturday before Christmas. Oh my...

I saw it at Carmike and was told the 1 pm theater was cold so I bought a ticket for the noon showing. It was freezing in there too (wore my coat the whole movie) or I was told the wrong was without heat. Anyway, the movie was FANTASTIC!!! The storyline wasn't so bad and the 3-D was not nauseating at all. Just an amazing movie!

Wow, what an amazing movie! The amount of detail they put into it is incredible. There were so many frames that were just filled with things you just haven't seen before.

I've never seen CGI characters move so fluidly and lifelike. And the mechanized robot warrior things...wow.

The story was what you expect, but it's how they told it that was so impressive. The 3D...that wore on me as the movie went on. Yes, it was cool, but my eyes never got completely comfortable. It was hard to figure out exactly where to look, where the best in-focus place was, if that makes sense.

In any case case, I highly recommend it. I think it's up there with movies like Star Wars and Jurassic Park, movies that showed you things you really had not seen before.

Sigh, I didn't like it. Don't want to spoil it for anyone, I just didn't care for it at all. It was a let down to me. Just my opinion. Apparently everyone else is going ga ga for it.
