I know we have one more game left to play this season. But what are we looking like for next year? Who are the projected starters? Who of our redshirts will most likely be instant contributors? Will our injured players like Lemmon, Staley, Smith, Spud, etc. be close to 100%? Will Antoine get another year of eligibility?
I think next year will really be telling for our program. We're losing a bunch of contributing seniors. I know we all wanted to see a game or two improvement over last year...but given our recent history, these last two seasons have been great.
Do you think next year will be a season in which we 'reload' or 'rebuild'?

We will definitely be down. The schedule isn't doing us any favors either. I think the most important question to be answered is how rough will the transition be from Zac to Weeden. The Colorado game gives me hope, but then again...it was Colorado.

Yeah, I hear you. CU had us on the ropes and he did a nice job. What is our schedule for next year or at least what are our non-conference games? I don't see it on the athletics website...

Without knowing what our starting lineup will be next year, going just off of what I know we are losing, my way too early prediction is:
7-5
4-Sep Washington State W
11-Sep Troy W
18-Sep Tulsa W
25-Sep at La Lafayette W
2-Oct A&M W
9-Oct Bye
16-Oct At Tech L
23-Oct Nebraska Homecoming L
30-Oct at K State L
6-Nov Baylor W
13-Nov at Texas L
20-Nov at Kansas W
27-Nov OU L

For the program to keep improving, we need to be able to beat all the north teams consistently and Tech more often than they beat us.

If we get a good OC I'll say 8+; with Gundy making the calls I'll say 7 tops.
I use to cut him more slack even with the bad play calling, but playing an injured QB not once but twice has soured me on his ability to make good game decisions.

My prediction is:
4-Sep Washington State - W
11-Sep Troy - W
18-Sep Tulsa - W
25-Sep at La Lafayette - W
2-Oct A&M - W
9-Oct Bye
16-Oct At Tech - L
23-Oct Nebraska Homecoming - W
30-Oct at K State - W
6-Nov Baylor - W
13-Nov at Texas -L
20-Nov at Kansas -W
27-Nov OU - ???
9-3 or 10-2 depending on Bedlam. Right now I say we don't win bedlam because if we couldn't beat them this year, I don't know what year we can!!!! And THAT really sucks to even think about.

Unfortunately I'll also probably start leaning a little more towards Traber's line of thinking on Bedlam and the Horns.
I will predict losses against Texas & Oklahoma every year, no matter what town they play in, until OSU can prove me wrong.

I would say 9-3 is the best we can hope for, but 8-4 or 7-5 is more likely. K-state, A&M and Nebraska will probably all be better next year than this year. KU should drop off since I think they're losing lots of seniors. Baylor and Tech should be about the same as this year.

Wow. You think Washington State, who is 1-11 on the year and 0-9 in the Pac 10, and Tulsa will present a bigger challenge than A&M?

Need to switch out Lemon for Moala. Pretty sure Lemon did a redshirt this year and will be back from the injury. Also at WR don't forget Cooper and Fooks will be in the mix and could very easily be ahead of some listed.

WSU is just a feel. With everyone that we're losing and QB a bit of an unproven, combined with it being first game and offense will probably start slow, WSU though crappy this year, are at least used to playing football in a big boy conference, and I imagine will put up a contest.
Tulsa always seems to make me nervous and usually plays tough. Same thing with them, just a feel.
Frankly watching the offense lately, has just underwhelmed me. Couple that with losing so many players, I think we are bound to win a couple less games.

I forgot about Lemon... he plays MLB like Gent, so it will be interesting who starts at weakside....

2010 = 9-3, being the second year of more reloading than rebuilding under the Gundy-at-the-helm era.
As far as QB, yeah, maybe a bit of a drop in overall performance but I wouldn't be surprised to be pleasantly surprised here  . I have a lot of confidence in Weeden stepping up, but it isn't outside the realm of possibility that one of the new QB's-in-waiting may actually take the lead. I've been hearing good things about Chelf, and believe that Deaton will prove to be an outstanding recruiting "hit" on the field in 2012 or 2013. RB will continue to be a strength, and leading the B12 in rushing performance will be the norm of the future - in no small part due to continued reloading vs. rebuilding at OL.
Defense will continue to improve under Young, offense will hold their own and we WILL have a clearly defined non-HC OC. Predictions of a large fall-off in win-production is pessimistic nonsense that seems to abound after a disappointing loss. What seems to escape a bunch of folks nowadays is that the state-of-the-program has progressed such that EVERY loss is disappointing rather than expected.

Also next year the team won't be carrying as much expectations on their shoulders. I for one will not be expecting as much. That schedule sets up to be a lot easier than I thought as we really shouldn't lose to any of the non conference teams except maybe Tulsa as they do return a lot of players on offense. However our defense should match up to them pretty good and it helps that it is the third game. Getting A&M, Nebraska and UO at home will help with all of those tougher games. K-State should be better but really they are just a paper tiger this year as they have not beat anyone of consequence and don't look to be that much tougher next year. Kansas will be worse off and should be a victory but Baylor scares me with Griffins return and the other stockpiling of players that Briles has done, however we do get them at home. Texas is going to be losing a lot of players (especially if they win the national title and some younger players jump to NFL) so who knows maybe we can pull the upset.
I am looking forward to the QB race as I think we could be in a real good situation with 5 competitors that will be pushing each other and no clear defined favorite coming in. With Wickline we seem to finally be at the point on the OL that we want the rest of the team, just reloading each year. So not worried about that area at all except for some early games and those shouldn't be tough. TE should be better as they all return and are a year older and more experienced. WR should be as good or better than compared to the WR corp we had for most of this year as most return and again will be more experienced (really looking forward to seeing Tracey Moore). RB should be still good as we lose Toston and Beau but have a lot of guys behind them that have a lot of talent and we should finally have a healthy Hunter back.
On the defense it gets trickier but the good news is it is Bill Youngs second year and he historically does a lot better in his second and third years. DT will be a dropoff but shouldn't be horrible. DE should actually be able to be as good or even better with the talent there. LB with Lemon coming back will be ok as long as we find some backups. DB is a real question as there are a lot of holes and not sure what is going to fill them all.
Overall I have hopes for a great year but will not put to many expectations on it...

We should have Davis at WR next year also. Assuming he has been practicing all year and keeps his nose clean he could start.

I should have listed Chinasa at DE instead of Jones... and you're correct, DE should be better next year. We lose Price but add Hart into the rotation plus come redshirt kids... should be more experienced, deeper and better.
DT loses Burton and Miller, but entering this season, neither had started at DT, so it's not a lot different for next year. Donaldson, Jarka and Nicholas all return and Hubbard should be in the rotation.
King was a RsFR this year, Anthony Rogers was a Freshman, Jimoh was a JR JUCO last year.
plus, we're bringing in 3 DTs in this class 4-star Barnett, 3-star Littlehead and 3-star Wheeler.

I think we'll be at the level we were this year for awhile. 8-4 to 10-2. Unless we hire a great OC we'll be at this plateau, maybe forever. We have the reputation as a good football school with great facilities, and lots of TV time. That rep. will continue to get us the recruits that slip just under the major schools. So we continue to compete with most good teams, but will always be second level to uo and ut in our division. We need some innovation in our offensive schemes, some new blood.
Until we can somehow jump that last fence we should really build up that rivalry with TTU. We compete for the same recruits.

One thing we need next year is a dominant D lineman. Nebraska got their defense turned around this year with the emergence of Suh. Our guys were good at blocking the holes but we never could get anybody to rush the passer or be generally disruptive every play. One big-time D-lineman would make the entire front better. JMO.

Texas, OU, and Tech are all losses.
Washington State, Troy, Lafayette, Baylor, and Kansas are all wins.
Tulsa, A&M, Nebraska, and K-State determine the season. I think at best, we go 3-1 out of this group and likely 2-2 (I don't trust the Nebraska game). The only thing keeping the A&M game in this group is the fact that it's in Stillwater.
7-5 or 8-4, and either 4th or 5th in the division again. With the realignment of bowls, that's a Holiday Bowl trip at best...possibly the Texas Bowl or the Yankee Bowl.
