if it means we attract fans that boo our own players. Sickening, just sickening.

They were booing Gundy for not figuring out what everyone in the stadium knew midway through the first quarter.

I have yet to see an OSU fan boo a player who wasn't busting their ass on every single play.
when we dog it and make stupid coaching decisions a boo is appropiate.
we lost to UT last year in Austin, played our asses off, but lost, no one booed that.
Losing to Colorado, at home, on TV, deserves what it gets.

Get off your f#$%!* high horses. I paid my money, I was at the game, if I'm not happy with what I paid my money for and put in the effort to go see, I have every right to boo - player or coach. For me though, it was not at players, it was our idiot coaches who must have forgot Zac was standing right next to them and was NOT out on the field.

Sorry, but you should NEVER boo your own team. There are two things you can boo - the refs and the sooners. It really pissed me off to hear people booing our own team. How do you think it made Cate feel to hear all the boos, you think he didn't already know he wasn't playing well, then to have the fans booing. It is just classless.

It was very loud on TV and even the commentators said something about it. If I were there I more than likely would have rattled your teeth if you had the nerve to spew that crap towards the players anywhere within earshot of me.
You really think Cate could discern who the boo's were meant for? ANYONE who boo'd should be ashamed. I hope we're better than that.
BTW, Nice first post.

I'd like to see you try! Who are you, the players' feel-good police? Will you be handing out participation trophies to everyone after the season?

So you can voice your opinion by booing, but you'd rather no one else here voice their opinion that you were being classless? Check.

Cate had to get moonstruck with his first start. He has performed well in scrimmages. I feel sorry for him to put in 3 years of effort then blow his big chance. He really didn't pla well bu I don't think that is indicative of anything except his nerves.
The coaches had it figured out, they were just hoping he would get over the nerves and start playing to his potential. They gave him as much chance as they could. Nobody was helping him tho. The entire Offensive unit played poorly in the 1st half. Thank God for Bill Young, the D kept us in the game.

I've spoken with no one that thought Cate should have started. It was a very strange decision. It's clear to anyone who has seen them play the Weeden is better yet Mike keeps coming back to Cate. I don't know why though. Some people have said it was out of some sense of loyalty to a kid who has put in 3 years and done all the right things. I call BS on that because what about the other guys on the team who have put in the time and effort. You have to put the team in the best place to win and Cate wasn't the answer. The sad thing is if CU wouldn't have scored to take the lead I would be willing to bet Weeden would not have played.
I don't blame Cate, he's just not a DI QB, doesn't make him a bad kid or worthy boos. As someone said earlier I doubt he could discern the boos weren't for him, just like I'm sure Mike is oblivious to the fact the boos were aimed at him.
I'm not one who is anti booing your own team because sometime being told you are playing like crap by people that care about you isn't a bad thing. Caring about someone or something doesn't mean always saying you are doing great even when they aren't. Mike is all about nothing but positive reinforcement, however the defense didn't start playing better this year until BY had a come to Jesus talk at halftime of one of our earlier games. There's a time and place for everything.

Nahhhh, I'm just someone with a natural aversion to clueless, classless, douchebags who embarrass the school in public with their idiotic behavior. It diminishes us all and should be stamped out like a small grassfire as quickly as it starts up.
Oh, CRAP!!! Is this another goon? Why is it they always show up after a game pretending to be us? I don't get their fascination with that "trick". BTW any RSS last night? I saw one at a 6 man HS football game in the smallest TX town you could imagine last week. He must have been wearing a full $17.00 worth of Wal Mart's finest bargain bin paperclip gear.

We had the same discussion about Cate / Weeden yesterday and someone said it was because Cate had a better grasp on the offense. It may be true, he could be fantastic in practice. Heck he could come in later and be fantastic still. Gundy knows quarterbacks and he must see something in Cate. Weeden looked really solid. He's not that mobile but what an amazing passing arm.
And I agree with you Inky that there's a time and place for those kind of talks, and by your own mention Young did it in private, at halftime. You'll notice that the booing did nothing to change the situation, Gundy waited until after the half to make the change. I really don't think he cares about our opinions during the game. He hasn't asked my opinion once, even though I've offered quite a few suggestions at the top of my lungs.
Props to the crowd last night, They really sounded LOUD at the right times.

If you think about it, it looked like Gundy simplified the offense for Weeden (swing passes to the running backs, short outs, etc.) This might be an indication Cate does have a better grasp of the offense. He was just too wound up to run it.

Also, I didn't think the receivers were running very good routes when Cate was in there. Looked like CU had inside position on several of those slant routes.

Weeden did a lot of it by not giving up, too. Where Cate would haphazardly lob the ball toward the DB, Weeden would stay with the play, rolling out and relying on patience until a receiver could get open. He did this on a number of otherwise busted plays and we wouldn't have won had he not done that.
I don't think you can really pin Cate's poor performance on the receivers or the coaches. He did an awful job. It's as simple as that. Most of his passing play calls weren't all that technical either. Most were long routes along the sidelines and any decent quarterback could have at least overthrown if he wasn't certain his guy was going to get it.
By contrast, Weeden's passes--some were definitely rocket balls--had much more touch to them. Elegant, almost.
I think Weeden did gloriously under pressure, kept his players loose, has a fabulous arm, and is very likely the future of our program. The guy just has *it*. It's a different *it* than Zac Robinson has, but it's an *it* nevertheless.

Good points fan. There were definitely more adjustments made at the half than just a QB change.

I wondered last night how much playing pro baseball played into his grace under fire, if any? He's been in pressure situations in front of large crowds before, although definitely not this much pressure with this large of a crowd. But still...

I think they were booing the couple sitting next to me that left with 4 minutes left in the game. Yes...they left when Colorado was facing 3rd & 6 with one first down standing between them and field goal range. I hope getting home twenty minutes earlier was worth it.

Probably quite a lot. His age might add to his grace under fire as well. I don't really know exactly what it is that makes him calm in those situations, but I'll take it wherever it may come from.

Well I have to say that everytime they went for a closeup of Cate out there he had a "deer in the headlights" look. It was obvious from his facial expressions that he was not comfortable and also obvious that did not affect Weeden at all. Age and experience probably account for most of this but Cate could also be what they call a practice QB, looks great in practice but get him under the lights and just can't perform.
As far as why Gundy keeps going with Cate, I keep coming back to a comment that a friend of mine made about Weeden: "they will have to cut back the offense for him as he will not be able to grasp as much as we normally try and run". This person has coached Weeden so he is very familiar with him. Basically his opinion was that he has the best cannon arm he ever saw, however he just is a little lighter upstairs (that is the nicest way I can think to put it...).
