Sophomore safety Victor Johnson suffered a torn ACL at practice on Wednesday, a source close to the Oklahoma State football team said.
The severity of the damage done to the ligament is unknown. OSU officials could not be reached for comment. OSU does not discuss injuries.
Johnson, a native of Waco, Texas, started every game at safety for the Cowboys and returned kickoffs. Johnson has 28 tackles on the season for the Cowboys as well as a forced fumble against Texas.

Anybody want to try and come up with an all-Oklahoma injured team...my goodness, between OU and OSU we could come up with a seriously talented injured team...
What in the everloving HELL goes on at our practices????

What in the everloving HELL goes on at our practices????
Tackling, blocking, route running, scrimmage, etc.
It is my contention, having coached grade school and junior high kids in football and basketball, that as the kids of today progress up through their sports careers that they are putting more and more stress on their bodies, therefore making injuries like this more common. When I was young (you know, playing around with Cain and Abel) we did not do as much weigh lifting and stress conditioning as do the kids of today. I have seen kids with dislocated knee caps because of doing squats with too much weight. Shoulder injuries from weight training. Etc.
To compete at the college level you are seeing these kids hone their bodies to the razors edge. BMI indexes that are flat ridiculous, etc. Muscles well developed and tight. I guess you could say "no slop" in the system. But to this day I haven't seen a way of beefing up an ACL. Stretching, yes, but that just doesn't quite get it.
Now Coach might disagree with me on this but these are just my totally unscientific observations.

Memphis you are correct on your assumption that there is not much you can do to prevent an ACL injury.... when you are talking ligaments, all they are is fiberous bands that connect bone to bone....
Any major shift of weight or mis-planting in a surface can cause a shift in the knee and the ligament to break or "snap" ... hence the loud pop you hear in a knee injury...
Some stuff we do is to put knee braces on our O-Lineman that gives them extra support in that area... this would be tough for a DB because the knee braces would slow them down..hence making them a step slower trying to cover a speedy WR...
Now, I have seen kids blow out a knee jogging, doing light squat work, and even kids with braces on during a game... so it is impossible to totally prevent this type of injury...
In practice, it can happen anytime just like in a game... you can't just not practice.. now you can have a "light contact" practice, but even then a player can slip and hurt a knee, misplant and hurt it, etc....
I know this sounds small minded but it is true- It is part of the game.

sometimes going 50-80% in practice is more dangerous than going 100%

So do you put Josh Cooper back on kickoffs or is he even healthy? Who replaces Victor in the secondary?

Can you imagine a worse game to be going into without one of your starting DBs? I hate it for VJ, he has had a good year.
