I was told this evening that this is going to happen. Anybody else hear this?

Man, if this happens and they hit something more money for the athletic dept? or would the university get it?

I think it would depend if it was owned by the athletic foundation or the university? As of now it is owned by the Cowboys sports foundation ( the same thing as Cowboy golf) and can be sold to the university when the building starts.

Someones pulling your leg. The zoning of the land would prevent drilling.

Also, the owner of the mineral rights gets the money for any drilling. The land owner only collects damages.

+1

I've seen some drilling done pretty close to city's & houses, but I doubt they would drill there, and I don't think we would want that either. Rotary drilling isn't the quietest process on the planet. I'm not sure that would be a good thing for folks living in Bennett, or anywhere else within about 3/4 of a mile.

The OSU Foundation has some mineral interest in and around Payne County. There will be some horizontal drilling in a very well established field that is not close to the proposed athletic village. The foundation will receive its proportionate share of revenue from its royalty interest. Most of the wells are named (ie. OSU # 1, Foundation # 1) or has some type of affiliation to the University.

Just heard tonight that they had done some horizontal drilling and found oil beneath Boone Pickens Stadium. Would that be something $$$

any of you local heard anything about this?

also, the University was buying all the land from Admiral to Western

I'm trying to think where Admiral is. I have not heard about any drilling either.

Only drilling in town that I know of is over there behind Staples.

"IF" true, wouldn't pumping out the oil create the possibility of making the land unstable (i.e., sink hole potential) especially under a structure as massive and heavy as Boone Pickens Stadium?

Oh good Lord.

Oh good Lord.

I'll take that as a yes?

I'm sure it would depend on the depth and the geology; but it's not without consideration.

I think it depends on the type and size of geologic formation that they are pumping oil from. There are places that the ground levels have sunk due to removing oil. I don't know what type of formations pose this risk or what type of geology the campus is on.

Disclaimer: I am not a geologist but I did drive by a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Most wells in Payne County are producing at depths between 3,000 - 4,500 feet.

No worries about sinkholes.

Did OSU not acquire the mineral rights?

I'm not sure of oil and gas law in Oklahoma, but in Texas, zoning cannot override the right of a mineral owner to extract oil or gas. I would suspect it is similar in Oklahoma, otherwise a mineral owner would be denied the right to ANY use of those mineral rights (i.e., it is an unauthorized government taking that violates the US constitution). There might be some regulations in terms of proximity of one oil well to another and requirements that certain safety and environmental criteria be met, but other than that, they should be free to drill.

per JimBob's oilly friend you can horizontal drill up to 3 miles so Perkins Road is what a mile to the stadium, sounds very possible. Will this not PO Boren even more with all this money we have coming in?:ousucksnana::food-smiley-004:

hope the word PO does not offend anybody
