Of course I grow my own Turnips but you can get what you need at the grocery store.

2 purple top turnips.
Leaves from the above or sold seperately.
2 14oz. cans of low sodium chicken broth.
2 cups of water.
1 carrot
1 stalk of celery.
4 slices of bacon.
1 teaspoon of garlic in oil.
2 teaspoons of cajun seasoning (Tony Chachere's Creole)
optional - fully cooked smoked sausage.

Chop bacon into 1-inch pieces. Place bacon in stock pot and fry. Don't drain for flavor.
Cut carrot and celery to 1/4-inch pieces.
Carefully add chicken broth, water, garlic and seasoning to bacon.
Peel and dice turnips into 3/4-inch pieces.
Add turnips, celery and carrots to pot. bring to boil.
Rinse the turnip leaves. Peel leaves from stem. Rip into smaller pieces.
Carefully add leaves to pot.
Optional - slice 1-inch pieces of sausage and add to pot.
Cover and simmer for 45 - 50 minutes.

I will definitely be making this! I love greens, and it's low carb, to boot!

Thanks for sharing.

This got me thinking about my grandparents, the McGilvrays. They ate turnip greens and cornbread for lunch nearly every day for about sixty years. They lived to be 89 and 94, and enjoyed outstanding health until the very end.

Gotta be something in the greens...
