Cowgirl coach Kurt Budke will try to win his 400th game when Oklahoma State hosts Iowa State on Sunday.

Budke earned career win 399 on Thursday night when the Cowgirls (20-3, 8-2 Big 12) outlasted Texas Tech for a thrilling 58-56 victory.

Yet, Budke’s focus is solely on his team.

“These girls deserve another five or six thousand out there on Sunday,” Budke said. “They deserve it. They’re working hard, they’re doing everything we ask; there’s just four games left. Come out and support these kids, and you might be surprised how far we get.”

Budke’s first head coach position was at Allen County Community College. Budke moved to Trinity Valley Community College, where he won four national championships.

Budke compiled a 273-31 (.898) record at the junior college level, the highest winning percentage in NJCAA history.

After two seasons as an associate head coach, Budke took over tradition-rich Louisiana Tech and went 80-16 in three seasons.

Budke has since turned Oklahoma State into a Big 12 Conference contender. The Cowgirls are tied for third place in the conference with Oklahoma and are just one game behind Kansas State and a half game behind Baylor.

No. 400 will not be easy for Budke and the Cowgirls. Iowa State played Kansas State and Oklahoma down to the wire before losing to each team by three.

“You’ve got to take it one game at a time,” junior Taylor Hardeman said. “You can’t look towards anybody else. We’ve just got to get our game plan ready.”

Oklahoma State has played two straight road games and will look to extend its winning streak to five games.

The game will be the third “Think Pink” game for the Cowgirls to raise breast cancer awareness. Several activities are planned, and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.

The athletic department will be giving away 300 pink t-shirts, while Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will pass out pink ribbons and informational post cards.
