This one is kinda hard to prep but really easy to cook. I made it the other night and let me tell ya, it is really good!!!! Great for a romantic evening with the wife or girlfriend and alot cheaper than going to an up scale resturaunt. Plus, in my dealings with women, it's a really good turn on when a man cooks, just saying:)
I got the crab cake recipe from Tyler's Ultimate off the Food Network. I love his show along with Bobby Flay's "Boy Meets Grill" and also Paula Dean, she reminds me so much of my aunt Judy. I took his crab cake recipe and added a twist of my own. Notice how I incorporate bacon into alot of my recipes. For you health nuts, you can also use turkey bacon. I just work out so I can eat really well:)
Here is the crab cake recipe.
Ingredients
1 pound crabmeat, picked free of shells
1/3 cup crushed crackers (recommended: Ritz)
3 green onions (green and white parts), finely chopped
1/2 cup finely chopped bell pepper
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 egg
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 lemon, juiced
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
Dash cayenne pepper
Flour, for dusting
1/2 cup peanut oil, olive or vegetable is suffice
Cooking
In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients, except for the flour and peanut oil. Shape into patties and dust with flour.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When oil is hot, carefully place crab cakes, in batches, in pan and fry until browned, about 4 to 5 minutes. Carefully flip crab cakes and fry on other side until golden brown, about 4 minutes
Make sure you lay the cakes on a paper towel or drain grate to allow the excess grease to dry off before you put on the steak.
Sirloin
Cut top sirloins into round filets. Season and marinate to your liking. Wrap bacon around sirloin. I found if you let the bacon sit to room temp it sticks to the steak better, if not you can also use tooth picks to keep the bacon around the steak. Cook steak.
Afer both items are cooked, set your crab cake on top of the filet. I mashed the cake down onto the steak to kinda marry the two and it also lets the crab mixture run down the side of the steak. I topped it with freshly grated parmesan, a dap of sour cream, and freshly chopped chives. Those are optional but mine was really good.
No need to serve a baked potato as the crab cake makes an excellent sub for that carb. I served with my blue cheese vinagrette salad.
Really good with a frutier kind of wine like a zin of some sort.
Enjoy
