OSU breakdown
By JIMMIE TRAMEL World Sports Writer
2/11/2008
Records: 11-12 overall, 2-7 Big 12
Looking back
Freshmen James Anderson, Martavius Adams and Ibrahima Thomas combined for 31 points and 22 rebounds Wednesday as OSU ended a six-game losing streak with a 64-63 homecourt victory over Colorado. The Cowboys got out-freshman-ed Saturday in an 82-61 loss at 20th-ranked Kansas State. Wildcat rookies Michael Beasley, Bill Walker and Jacob Pullen combined for 54 points, 22 rebounds and 10 assists.
The week ahead
Wednesday: vs. Baylor, 7 p.m.
Saturday: at Texas A&M, 2:30 p.m.
Can OSU capitalize on a "ones that got away" revenge tour? The Cowboys play rematches this week against teams they lost to earlier this season. OSU hit just 18-of-33 free throw attempts in a 79-71 loss at Baylor and was scoreless in the last 2:50 of a 59-56 homecourt loss to Texas A&M.
The big picture
What led to a 21-point defeat at Kansas State?
Sean Sutton gave his players three pregame keys. OSU had to be tough and match KSU's physicality. The Cowboys had to keep the Wildcats off the offensive glass. And the Pokes had to limit turnovers. They failed in every category, giving up 23 offensive rebounds and committing a season-high 24 turnovers.
Can Martavius Adams be a factor?
The freshman post player made one field goal in his first seven league games. He was aggressive enough to produce 10 points and 13 rebounds the last two games. "Martavius is a very humble guy until you get on the court," Byron Eaton said. "When he gets on that hardwood, it's like the Incredible Hulk coming out of him. He just turns into another guy and starts playing just crazy. I like that about him."
Is there hope for the program this season?
OSU and Colorado share last place in the Big 12 standings. The Cowboys haven't finished lower than seventh in a league race since a last-place Big Eight finish in 1985. If there's going to be a late-season surge, it needs to start now.
