I'm stealing this obit from ost8digger on Rivals (I added the photo), but there are a couple of you on here who might remember Bruce Scott.

"Funeral services were held today for former OSU quarterback, Dr. Bruce Scott of Marlow. The large turnout was a testament to what an incredible person was. One of Bruce's most memorable accomplishments while playing for OSU was to lead the Cowboys to a 7 -6 victory over Arkansas. Bruce's dedication to all things orange didn't end with his playing career. He was a former president of the Posse Club, former president of the OSU Alumni Association and on the OSU Foundation Board of Governors. Bruce was one of the original 24 students admitted to the OU School of Dentistry, but true to his Cowboy roots, he finished at the top of his class. Bruce is survived by his wife Penny; his son Dr. Ryan Scott (former quarterback at ECU) and wife Dr. Shawn Scott; his daughter Shannon Pfeiffer and her husband Roger (former OSU receiver and current Edmond Sante Fe offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach) and 5 grandchildren. Bruce's contributions to OSU, his profession, his community, and especially his role as a husband, father and friend will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Bruce."

I watched Dr. Scott play when I was in college. His life record would indicate that he was a good man.

The game picture that Casdas posted is the first game of the 1967 season. The Cowboys fought the Falcons to a zero to zero tie that day.

The Arkansas game was the next week. It was the only year that OSU defeated Arkansas when I was in school. To show you how important that win was in Little Rock, you must consider that OSU played Arkansas in Little Rock 16 times from 1955 to 1972, never playing them in Stillwater. 1967 was the only year the Cowboys came home from Little Rock with a win during this period. It was a great day.

The numbered helmet Bruce is wearing is another story.

Living in Duncan, I knew who Dr Scott was, but I never used him as a dentist.

If I had known he was an OSU alum, I would have.

Yes he was diagnosed in late July with stage IV pancreatic cancer. He was a fighter in life and death!

I would love a copy of that picture. I am Bruce's daughter. That is one that I have not ever seen. My dad was a very modest man and I only have one picture of his football playing days. Thanks

I used to work at a newspaper in Marlow. Dr. Scott was always a pleasure to deal with. I hope his family can accept my condolences for their loss. RIP

SPoke - my condolences to you and your family.

You can right-click on the photo and save it to your computer. It might even print fairly well, because I scanned it at a medium resolution. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

I work for Scott Family Dentistry & the wonderful Dr B, just wondering what the story was about the helmet.

Welcome to the board and your first post, texokie. I started this thread on the story of the 1967 football helmets.

We sure have lost a lot of great Cowboys and Cowgirls this year...I think we all need to thank them and their families for all the years of great support and their dedication to OSU. Bruce is just the latest Poke to fall and I was sure sad to hear about his tradgic passing.
