Got a private message here at OSS from someone named Patricia, with a quote from Albert Einstein re: budhism, and a link. Clicked on the link and it was about budhism. Very weird. Has anyone else heard from Patricia or know who she is, or has OSS been spammed?

I got one too. I did some research on the domain name t35 It looks like all the info they gave is fake too. ICANN can be notified of fake info and they have the right to take the domain name down.

I had some malware on my system after I opened the email from dear Patricia. Too coincidental for it not to be from her. Everyone that got a message from her should do a system scan.

I got malware too from it. Should my McAfee VirusScan be sufficient to remedy the problem or should I do something else? The VirusScan said that it was cleaned and moved, rather than deleted. Any thoughts?

My laptop has not worked the same since. I have done scans and it is still really slow. The processes under task manager show the cpu usage at 100%. Have tried starting in safe mode and scanning and still does not work like it should..... :(

Hmmm...there are a couple things I'd check.

1) Make sure the virus signatures for your anti-virus software are up to date. If they aren't, update them then scan again.

2) Download, install, and run a couple different anti-malware/adware/spyware programs. I use Ad Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php) and Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html). There are others that work well. I find that no one particular program catches everything, so I usually run a couple. Like virus scanners, anti-malware programs have to be updated frequently so they can catch the latest crap that's floating around out there. I guarantee that they'll find lots of stuff, most of which is fairly innocuous.

Please post the name of the offending bug if you remember it and maybe we can help track down how to really kill it.

Ok, it is back up and running. I was at a hotel on a business trip and I guess the stinking hotel internet totally wiped it. It turned off my virus protection software and turned off my firewalls. Viscious stuff.

I don't think you, the hotel, the internet or your home server had anything to do with it.........Buddha just doesn't believe in Sandites
