LOS ANGELES — Patrick Swayze died after a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Swayze's publicist Annett Wolf says the 57-year-old "Dirty Dancing" actor died Monday with family at his side. He came forward about his illness last spring, but continued working as he underwent treatments.
It was 1987 when Swayze became a star with his performance in "Dirty Dancing," a coming-of-age story set in a Catskills resort in New York. The 1990 film "Ghost" cemented his status as a screen favorite.
Swayze played a murdered man trying to communicate with his fiancee through a spirit played by Whoopi Goldberg.
He kept on working even after it was disclosed in March 2008 that he had a particularly deadly form of cancer. He starred in "The Beast," an A&E drama series, and said he and his wife were working on a memoir.

Just was getting ready to post.
Was reading a two page news story on MSN and when I clicked on the second page there was a breaking news banner at the top of the page.
Damn shame.
Pancreatic cancer is very deadly.
RIP.

:-(
I've been waiting to hear this. He fought one hell of a battle. My nana, one of the people I loved most in this world, (raised me) had pancreatic cancer 12 years ago. Doctors told us it was the most painful and suffering of all cancers. She was diagnosed Feb 16th and died May 20th.
He fought a long hard battle. Peace be with him and his family.

Wow, i'm really sad. Anytime I even hear "Pancreatic cancer" it freaks me out. It's such a horrible way to die. You see things you wished you had never seen.
Pancreatic cancer got my dad, in 1993, and my close friend's husband last year. It is truly a dreadful, dreadful form of cancer. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

He was a good man. I enjoyed his work. He was a believable actor. His life was cut short. We should not be celebrating his life, but we are.

When some people die, their death is just mourned, and we fail to celebrate the life they lived and what they meant to us. Some people die way to soon and we fail to acknowledge what they meant to us until after they die and we fail to celebrate that they had a good life.
Yes, he fought a difficult battle in the end, but he had a good life, a full life with many accomplishments. We should not have to be celebrating his life now, because we are doing it only because he is gone.

Another cool thing I just read, he was married to the same woman for thirty years. That does not happen much any more, much less Hollywood. He was good guy and a good actor and will be missed.
My friend Andrea used to take ballet at his mother's dance school, and sometimes was in the same dance classes with him. She said he was an outstanding person.
I loved his Chippendale's SNL skit with Chris Farley. RIP, both of them.
