STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy said he will not decide on a possible punishment for Brandon Pettigrew until after the senior tight end's March 3 hearing in Payne County District Court.
"I can't do anything until this has run its course," Gundy said on Wednesday.
Last month, Pettigrew was charged with a felony -- assault and battery on a police officer -- and with public intoxication. He entered a plea of not guilty.
"Brandon made a terrible decision," Gundy said on Wednesday. "I hope he's learned a very difficult lesson. He is a (team) leader. He's a guy that made a dumb decision."
Five days before his Jan. 20 arrest by Stillwater police, the 6-foot-6, 260-pound Pettigrew announced that he would stay at OSU for his senior season. He had considered early entry in the NFL Draft. His career totals include 70 catches for 978 yards and nine touchdowns.
